He also didn't get the team ready for the departure of Bucks, Jimmy, Wakes, Burns and so on that has left a Leadership Vacumn.

But he is our coach this year so behind 100%..... ;)

Geez, i reckon the fact we have remained in the finals the last 3 years following such big name retirements is a real testament to the development of the list, MM's coaching and the ability to prepare kids for a future without these guys.

The leadership vaccuum is there...but i think that has a lot to do with guys like Fraser, Didak, Rhyce Shaw, Lonie and Ben Johnson not taking the next step. Didak is the only one in that list who is a genuine star now, but his behaviour has ruled him out.

If these guys progressed as would've been expected, then we would have a solid leadership group. We have been forced to skip a generation really.

Was interesting at the time. I remember he came into the 03 season clocking the fastest running times, and also the lowest body fat percentage. I thought he was set for his biggest year, however he fell out of favour with Malthouse and was given another shot around mid year. I remember an errant 30 metre handball he attempted (imo he was one of the better handballers of the modern era) and after that game he didn't get another look in.

Poor list management decisions by the coach have been a large part of the reason we haven’t won a flag under him but he does a good job with an underpowered list so we should keep him forever. After all, who needs premierships!

I personally think one of the mistakes was to delist Betheras. It probably didn’t cost us much on its own but that’s often the way with the individual decisions.

Delisting Betheras cost us a premiership? even if it was just a little bit

**** me dead mark thats just attacking MM for the sake of attacking

How good was 02 prelim at the G v Adelaide and 90 000 pies fans yelling "Rup, Rup, Rup, Rup......."

We're still talking about Rupe right?
OK then, I liked him...

I still like him

Sorry, what were we talking about?

Or the game in round 9 at the dome in 02 when he marked a scott kick out and drilled the goal to either level the scores or give us the lead

Betheras was not good enough to be retained on the list IMO. We hear of Mick's favourites, and Rupert seems to be the fans' favourites, I think the uproar over his departure isn't warranted, if he was to remain on our list it would only be as a cameo appearance.

"it's the same old song,
with a different meaning since you've been gone"

One mans "list management" is another mans "list clogger"

A lot on these boards want to have their cake and eat it too.

Every week we read of this player taking the place of this untried youngster or that "big name player" we never got and yet when it happens to be one of their favorites who get the flick the story is how MM's poor list management saw their boy axed.

I liked Rupe but he got de-listed.
He certainly did not cost Collingwood a flag any more than getting rid of McGough, both the Cloke boys or Woewodin did.

Fact is the TEAM was not good enough to win a flag.
When the TEAM is good enough they will.

Damn pie eyed you are one fantastic poster

Rupe McKee Steinfort Kinnear etc

All had one fatal failing that was highlighted more and more every year as the game got more professional

Serious?

Are you saying that Andrew Williams, Matthew Lokan, Ben Kinnear and David King (all employed as small/medium forwards in 2004-2005) were better value than Rupe would have been?

Never agreed with the 2003 clean out, and it occurred midyear, really. Freeborn was ushered out while Lokan plodded from midyear onwards (and players like Cole and Rhyce Shaw were always flighty types, Freeborn the dependable type). Betheras was overlooked in place of Williams and Kinnear, as was Mark Richardson and Jarrod Molloy (in the case of Kinnear and Tristen Walker). You may argue that we are where we are now and that it's all well and good, and that between rounds 13-PF 2003, we were fine, BUT our weakest links were covered by stellar seasons from Buckley, Burns, Licuria, Tarrant and Fraser, and a very good year from Rocca.

rupe has played with us (rumbalara) in shepparton for the last 3 years on and off. this year he played 6 or 7 games i think and was leading the league medal easy and then went overseas and we pretty much lost our general. top bloke and hope he comes back for next year and yes he is still doing is art and is making a bit of a name for himself (in a good way).

Rupe was a victim of AFL socialism. I strongly believe that delisted players not picked up in the draft should be allowed to stay on your list on whatever contract the club is willing to pay.

Nice way to put it.:thumbsu:

He is living in a building in Abbotsford, third floor with a great view of a footy ground we all love to the immediate east and railyards to the immediate west!

;) lucky bastard!

Not sure how many of my posts you’ve read in the few days of December 2008 since you joined given I haven’t been around much but no it isn’t a whoa is me post at all. I would have thought what I said was pretty easy to follow.

The results you achieve on the field are largely a product of the list management decisions you make. Malthouse is credited with over achieving with a poorish list yet he has had the list under his control for near on a decade. In that time he has had as many early draft selections as probably anyone. You probably think it’s not his fault. If so then we disagree.

In my opinion, Betheras should have been retained. It’s just 1 decision among many. The results are the arbiter.

If people questioning things about the results at Collingwood is getting boring to Eddie then I guess he is over the job.
