Great news.

In the drive for consistency we now have to distinct interpretations of deliberate intent.

Well done AFL. Can't wait for McLaren to get hold of this one.

AFL are becoming a joke, seriously knee jerk reactions to 1 or 2 incidents is making our game a laughing stock.

sooner or later its going to be more enjoyable going to watch the SANFL i tell u.

cant wait to see the 1st massive stuff up by the umps and perhaps costing a side a result.

Hmm lets see how many matches are negatively effected before the rule was in place 1 possibly 2.

How many matches are going to be negatively effected now? Probably most.

The AFL will permanently introduce a rule outlawing deliberately rushed behinds trialled during the pre-season.

*Sigh* A fundamental change to the game and completely unnecessary over reaction to what Joel Bowden did & Hawthorn's brilliant reaction to the fact Geelong couldn't hit a target inside 50 on GF day & the insane reaction of a group of people paid to keep the game in the news, for better or worse (The bottom feeders in the media)

The other was to award a 50m penalty against players who tackle, hold or make high contact against opponents after they have disposed of the ball.

This rule was an epic FAIL during the NAB Cup. Players were being penalised for "Completing" a tackle. To earn a 50 metre penalty now, all you need to do is handball the footy to anyone, even an opposition player at the precise second a player tackles you - He has no time to withdraw from the tackle, therefore 50 metres is paid, regardless of the fact his intentions were good.

I can remember at least one occasion that the Pies had one paid against them when they played us that was ridiculous in the extreme.

This form of cheating is our version of soccer's diving. I know they fear soccer, but do they really need to change the rules to encourage players to not play in the spirit of the game?

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said the number of deliberately rushed behinds had been increasing

Yes, Adrian. This rise has come with the change of the rule that stopped players having to wait for the flags.

So your solution to fixing your **** up, is to introduce another **** up of a rule.

Here's a more simpler answer for you idiot.... Change the rule back to the way it was.

and players had shown during the pre-season they were able to keep the ball in play to keep the game flowing.

& the game that was decided by an idiot with a whistle making the wrong call?

FMD. This soccer mom wannabe is going to be the death of our sport as we once knew it.

what a load of crap. the AFL dotn like the game being scrappy, and say handballs have become too much. so they introduce a rule which forces a mad scramble, and increases the amount of handballs!

simply going back to the old kick-out rule fixes the whole mess

What a joke.

The timing may be off, but I think this is a good rule.

It keeps the game interesting, and just think how well it's going to work when we have a close game with 2mins left on the clock.

Out of all the rules changed in the last 5 years this has to be the best one.

Having said all that, the ruling needs to be concrete. Stevens blatant rush was not called vs Hawthorn

Penalty is too harsh, if they had to introduce a deliberate rushed behind rule the penalty should have been a ball up 25m out or 3 points or something. Not an almost certain goal.

But they should have gone back to waiting for the flags to be waved. They are just changing rules to counter their other dumb rules.

Players who are contesting the ball in a marking contest or in general play may punch or knock the ball away from their opponents to prevent them from gaining possession of the football or from scoring. This will not be deemed to be deliberately rushed.

Considering the sheer majority of those situations are contested, just don't take possession and knock the ball over.

I don't understand why what Bowden and Hawthorn did have to be bracketed together. What Bowden did could easily be outlawed with minimal fuss; just make it a free kick for those players kicking out who put it through the goals for another rushed behind without another player touching the ball.

Wouldn't have helped Geelong win the Grand Final.

You lot could have pumped it inside 50 200 times and not found a target.
This is not about the GF, I've always thought that rushing a behind to be a blight on the game and something should be done about it the new kickout rule just made it worse but the poblem was always there.

And the Penalty to harsh doesn't sit with me. It's not as though defenders accidently deliberately rush a behind It's a conscious decision. Just don't do it and it wont be payed
