COLLINGWOOD could have all but one of its playing list to choose from in a fortnight as unlucky forward Sean Rusling nears a return to football in 2009.
“He’s going to be pretty close, not this week, but the following week.”

Rusling, known for his lightning-quick speed on a lead, would be almost certain to need a few matches at VFL level before being considered for a senior recall.

- Rusling edging closer

Well that certainly answers a couple of questions.

Rusling is finished... sad to say but in all likelihood true - his body just cant handle football.

most of us thought the same thing about cam cloke after a similar run with injuries and truth be known I dont reckon there are to many of us that would not have cam back in a heartbeat now. I am not saying you are wrong but I does need one last crack.

Rusling or Jack Anthony, no room for both. Jack down back I don't like that.

So it's Jack. Rusling will make us weaker.

A fit and firing Rusling was one of the reason's why we won 2 finals and pushed Geelong in 07.

I dont like Rusling's chances of playing a lot of football long term, but he is the only true Full Forward we have on our list. He leads hard, can take a mark as good as Jack Anthony, and is just as good of a kick.

If Rusling is fit and gains some form, he will play, that there is no doubt of, MM sees Rusling as paramount to our future success, because as I stated, other then him we dont have a true Full Forward because;

Travis Cloke: Best football is played outside 50, spinning on his left and driving long to Rocca, Rusling, Dawes or Anthony

Rocca: No future, short term Full Forward, but as injury prone as Rusling and 10 years older.

Dawes: Not a full forward anyway, more of a tall forward pocket, Half forward flanker, doesnt have the physicality and marking ability to play as a full forward

Anthony: Still improving, but has shown the best full backs beat him too easy. Is bloody important to us due to his verastility, will surprise some just how good he can also be down back. But he is never going to be a proper Full Forward.

Rusling is the only true Full Forward we have, like it or not, and our forward line success over the next few years still revolves around him a lot, which I agree isnt ideal.

If Rusling was fit along with Rocca i would neraly play Cloke on the wing similar to Richo, let him lead from the 50 onto the wing and he'll get it 9/10 times as this is where he des his best work.
Then you have a power foward in Rocca and two 'full fowards' in Anthony and Rusling

To everyone saying no room for russling well what we going to do when rocca retires at the end of the year? hahaha your kidding yourselves no future outlook

If Rusling does come into the side, I think it should be for Cloke, not Anthony, Anthony has shown much more thus far this season.

My brother went to school with Rusling in Adelaide. Apparently he has told people this will be his last year on the list and that his shoulders are gone. Not likely to even try to play SANFL in 2010.

I'm not optimistic, but good luck to him.

Also, Kevin Dyas has been named on an expanded interchange for the VFL... finally over that hamstring it seems.... hope he can put a full year together so we can see where he's at.

I thought some of those comments from the article were pretty vague and unclear. I wasn't really filled with confidence after reading them. Would love to see Rus back but i'm not sure he is critical to our forward set-up and he may well throw it out if we're not careful.

I'm not sure you're right about Rusling being our only full forward although it is a bit bare. Rocca is obviously a full forward (although as you point out not a long term option) Cloke can play there and so can L Brown (shudder) and Anthony. I don't agree that Clokes best footy is leading up the wing and pumping the ball long - in fact I think this is when he is playing his worst footy - he looks a lot more dangerous in a deep forward/ high full forward position.

You're right that good defenders beat Anthony too easily to be a genuine full forward but I think he'll be a very good third tall when Rocca comes in. That said i'd love to see him given a crack down back at some stage this year. I don't know how you can say Rusling is a better kick than Anthony - Rusling isn't nearly as bad as people on here make out but Anthony is in a league of his own. Probably the best set-shot in the AFL atm.

Great article. Shame he was not named!
Could be in for corrie

We often change our VFL team on the day, we'll just have to wait and see

Let's hope so. I guess they may have wanted to sneak him in without building it up too much but if they were to do that I'm guessing they would have got him to avoid the press.

LOL. Can you imagine if MM did this. People are already calling for his head.

He shouldn't care what other people think, coaches, at least the good ones, usually know more about the game of football than the media or the general public.

IMO Cloke doesn't deserve a spot in our side ATM. If Rusling is fit, firing, and has good showing in the VFL, I think that based on current form, Cloke should be dropped in favor of Rusling.

Just my opinion though, no doubt most supporters on here would disagree, and try and argue the fact that he adds "structure" to the team, whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.

Am absolutely spewing I cannot make it to the VFL tomorrow.

Would have loved to have seen the Rus last week.

It's looking very good. Everything is slowly coming together.

I'm hoping he kicks a bag against Williamstown and is back with a BANG!

A fully fit, injury-free Sean Rusling is the most exciting FF prospect we have and is easily better than Jack.

Fingers crossed.
