Cunningham marvelled at the level of performance across 17 years, but says that's only part of the reason behind Legend status.

"I know all about Russell the player, and the medals, and the flags, and the countless great games I watched from the best seat in the centre square.

"But Russell is a Legend because he of what he did and gave to our club for the 35 years after he played. He led our community and he worked to give so much to people who had less, and he guided people to be better.

"Only after his career did people outside Port Adelaide come to know the person he was."

Incredibly well deserved absolute legend Russell Ebert on and off the ground.
Fantastic speech by Brian Cunningham.
Absolutely idolised Russell and Bucky growing up in the 70's, to see Bucky induct Russell tonight almost 50 years later was incredibly special.
Being a lifelong Port supporter it's one night I will never ever forget.

Made my day, Russ, as you have done so many times in the past … and will continue to do, forever.

Hopefully Brian Cunningham's introduction will be up on the website soon. Brought a tear to the eye

Nice piece by Brett:

plus:

Not that we needed their confirmation

Changed the thread title. It should be something like this:

Russell Ebert has always been a legend (or “Common sense wins in the Hall of Fame”)

Or this:

In the Australian Football Hall of Fame, “Legend” has been elevated to “Russell Ebert” status

What a moment, such a warm and impassioned address by both Brian and Brett. Russ was one of a kind, not just for his footy skills but also for his devotion to people and helping his community.
A big **** you to Ken and the team for losing his tribute match - that hurt the core of our club more than the 119 flogging ever did.

I was shattered and angry after that game. I blamed the players not the coaches back then, and I haven't changed my mind.

They tried, maybe too hard, they won so much more of the ball than Hawthorn - but they played brain dead football and were so skill less. The antithesis of what Russell Ebert was as a footballer.

Why oh why did bucky leave, he just gets it, he gets us, his speech was brilliant, so proud to have Russell as our legend in the HOF, pity it wasn't last year.
None of us can blame Bucky for going off and doing his own thing after the '04 flag . His steady hand after our failed bid in '90 is no doubt one of the main reasons we got the second license.

But boy, how good would it be to see him back in some significant role.

Is there anywhere you can see a break down of Hall of Fame inductees by club?

I feel we've got a large and growing number.
