pagan came out and said russel is one of the few draftees he has seen who has been concious of his derensive game rather than just focussing on his attacking game.

the question is- has russell been torn apart by any of his oponents at vfl level?

to be a good player you don't need to get 30 touches, his job each week may have been to stop an opponent.
as long as he had a greater impact on the game than his opponent did, he has done his job and played well.

that may be true but when you are a top10 pick, the idea is that you will be the player getting the 30touches and a tag.

Is that the idea? I never knew that was the idea, I thought they were just supposed to play well and add something to their club (hopefully a lot eventually).

I'll tell you one thing though, all those key position players picked up with top 10 draft picks are in serious trouble if they're expected to get 30 possessions a game (although it would explain Kepler Bradley).

kepler will be good hell ever take over from dustin fletcher or take over from lloyd. most probly fletch
Then he'd better learn how to defend and beat his man rather than just playing the floating role. I'm pretty sure he'll be very good eventually too but Essendon didn't draft him to be a half back flanker.

just like the bulldogs didnt draft farren ray to play on the bench.. but it takes time for players to develp

Geez didn't Russell make an impact Sunday?

I know it'll take a while for him to develop, but it's disappointing that we're having to rely on first gamers for optimism this season.

How much game time did he get?

exactly id be surprised if he got 10 minutes on sunday that was a waste of time.. if your gonna debut give him a walker style debut and give him time.... gary lyon was talking big things about him and hopefully his words are correct
i hope he can get another go next week but with digbys good vfl form id suspect russell will make way for him

If Pagan sends him back to the Bullants this week then it will just reinforce how much the game has passed Pagan by. The Kid deserves another week or two in the ones.

Yes way! He was. Brett Jonson had the least amount of ground time with 37 minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pagan drops him back to the reserves (again) either. He's been playing quite well apart from Sunday and yet is immediately scapegoated for any bad loss.

I can't really see why they'd drop Russell for Morrell. Surely you'd give him a few more games before dropping him back. Honestly what's there to lose?

And what would that be now, the third time Morrell's come back into the side?

When are you people going to learn, these second tier players are not going to make a difference, as they are no where near AFL standard!

No wonder the Bullants are doing so well, as these reject players are suited to this mediocre level of football.

I would actually like to see Hartlett or Blackwell thrown in there instead. Let's try what Richmond did last year, and see whether or not these kids can play!

I actually watched Hartlett pretty closely in the Bullants reserves on Saturday (He is coming back from injury) and although the conditions didn't suit him he played really well. He has some tricks and and will be an excellent KPP for us.

Exactly!

Why not give Hartlett a run rather than select Morrell for the umpteenth time.

We really don't have much to lose here. We can only finish 15th or 16th, and to be honest I'd think Hawthorn's got the right idea in giving their kids some experience.

At least their morale would be higher than the players who probably realise their time's up come end of season.

Well Hartlett actually has to be promoted to the Bullants ones before he can either be considered but i agree with you i would like Wiggins, Sporn, Norman and Davies the remainder of the year in the senior team with some serious game time to see if they can gain some confidence.
