Rutten v Pavlich

There was a bit of discussion after the crows pre-season clash with Freo about Neil Craig's reluctance to move Ben Rutten onto Pav despite the havoc he was creating. Now the points are up for grabs do you think Ben will be moved out of full back to create the dream match-up?

FF I think it will be more a case of where he plays as to if Truck lines up on him. If they send Sandilands up forward, which they have in the last couple of games, I can see that Rutten would more than likely stand on him. Rutten is more comfortable closer to goal, but as you and I both know he doesn't get lost played further up the ground either. ;)

I don't think we can take too much out of that pre-season game as Craig was playing a few players out of position and I think he was using it as a 'learning' tool to see what CC was going to come up with. I know that was my impression about 1/2 way through the second quarter of that game.

How can Craig work out what CC might do on Sunday when we didnt play a full strenght team against you guys in that practice match? and neither did you guys. The team and players in positions will be different for both clubs on Sunday than for that pracice match pre-season. Not to mention diffrent sized oval.
May the best team win.
Wouldn't Rutten play on Pav's......
Are Stevens or Bassett more suited for Pav or maybe Taz?

I hope so!

It would be one match up that I would pay to see. Rutten on Pavlich is a perfect match up IMHO. However, I am not sure that Craig would compromise the "structure".

This perception that Truck is lost further up the ground is a myth. He is equally comfortable in the goal square or at CHB but for us as a team, in terms of strong defensive structure, we are better off if Truck is at the last line of defence. He is one that will make a contest in those long congested balls and will either take a mark or make something good happen.

I sure hope that Rutten is played on Pavlich. Thats one match up I would love to see and I reckon it would be a beauty :thumbsu:

Ruttens at his best when his forward leads about 30 meters out and we have pressure on there ball carrier. he spols nearly every time but his second efforts for the loose ball and as a link player are very good.

on the goal line in cramped areas he is just a gun spoiler.

I love it when there chief goalkicker goes up towards center to get the ball on Rutten. throws out there entire forward structure.

Wish bock could have another crack on pavlich. but We need bock elsewhere. Thought bock was unlucky in some points that day Pav destroyed the second half in 05.

Some stuff no one would of stopped and Bock lost confidence then.

Hey Bock might get plenty of oppotunities on Pav in the future.

Pre season training.

I think truck will line up on Mr no heart Tarrant.

Here is an interesting scenario.

Its a bit unusual that McGregor is named straight in the 25 just as he recovered from a long term injury. Is Craig keeping him up the sleeve as a match up for Pavlich. Last time McGregor played on Pavlich (Last year at Subi) he did an exceptional job.

So the question is, will McGregor come into the side to match up on Pavlich, allowing Rutten to play at FB and hence keep our structure intact?

Also don't forget that Ken McGregor is a very good wet weather player.

Interesting 24 odd hours ahead ;)

Rutton has to go onto Pav IMO. Unless we had McGregor playing he is the only suitable match up.

I have to agree with legitimatic that Tarrant is one of the hardest working forwards around. Has a big engine and will try to run his defender off his legs.

I hope McGregor doesn't play against Pav. He has no match fitness what so ever and if he is in the 22 then I think if he comes out unscathed it will be a good result. Rutten to go on Pav and Stevens on Tarrant.

Tarrant is not much of a hard worker.
Well he never used to be a Collingwood anyway.

I dunno what Chris Tarrant you watch, or maybe it is that Freo supporters he has more than enough heart.

snap.

Tarrant is one the hardest workers in the forward line. you're confusing his unpredicatability with being lazy.

the way he plays, he puts in the yards
