Go Rus

welcome back to the real world

At this stage I'd say even if he does string together a good series of games a comeback into the 1s this year certainly will be difficult.

Dawes has now established himself as a solid forward and a good player to work in combination with Cloke. Then L.Brown is a handy 3rd forward who can also play backup ruck.

Adding Rusling into that mix risks getting too tall. ..............
Yeah if Rusling could develop comparable ground play/evasiveness and goal snapping ability as a Leon, Medders or even McCafe, it woudln't be an issue at all since you'd have the best of both worlds. he isn't very tall, just a ridiculously fast lead. IF DAwes slumps he could be the replacement within 2 or 3 weeks if attains good form, otherwise could be the 3rd leading forward a la Anthony.

How did club Med play? I saw the previous Collingwood game that ABC televised and he didn't appear to do a lot (just ask the commentators! How they tipped...)

I just caught the CTV footage of the game and he looked very good. 21 touches, 2 goals and at least 4 goal assists if not more. Was back to his usual creative self- wheelin' and dealin' around the attacking half with his creativity. If I hadn't known JT was voted BOG by ABC, I would have thought Medders was pretty close to it because he was involved in all the pivotal moments.

As for Rus, it was funny watching the highlights and seeing "Sean Rusling- (no lie)" when it showed his game/stats. As long as he plays the season out, he will be safe at season's end and will only improve our stocks further.

I reckon we'll see Medders back in v Carltoon.
I hope so. He is one of the few that could come in and make a real difference in September so we need to find out before hand if that is likely or not.

If we can get Medhurst and Davis firing we can rattle a few cages.

I have no doubt that given our good form that we are using this opportunity to not risk any players if they are not 100% fit. Davis has been in and out of the side, Medhurst in the twos, Maxwell given a few extra weeks off than he needed, Fraser not picked despite us only having one ruck, etc etc etc.

So I agree. Maybe MM is engineering a Medhurst return for nearer September, and just giving him as much time as he needs to regain full fitness without the intensity of senior level footy.

I actually think Medhurst is just "re-learning" how to play a bit higher up the ground at VFL level. He was in fantastic form as a HFF pre Rocca going down in 07 and then was reused in the old role of a small FF. Last year he struggled with injury and readjusting to not playing as a key foward target.
