If you knew your players, you would know that he lived right out of Adelaide, about an hour away. I'm not surprised that he's happy in Melbourne, Goolwa isn't exactly the entertainment capital of the world. Still, family ties are strong, as well as friends.
Personally, I'd be surprised if he does come back to SA. All that ********s me is that all the great talent in this state keeps getting sent to the miserable failures of Victorian clubs.

Maybe you should have stayed in your own little vacuu called the SANFL!

Then we would never have had the pleasure of handing you your asses 2 years in a row.

That's not hurting right now. So we can't have a player that we never had? Hmmmmm...ouch, I guess.
No point talking about the future coz it could hold anything when both of our clubs have a bunch of legends who are just approaching their twilight. As good as each of our young brigades look will they be able to eclipse our respective Ricciuto, Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards, Hart/West, Darcy, Johnson, Grant, Smith?
That is something none of us can categorically say at this point in time.

Why would any player leave such a wealthy and successful club like the Western Bulldogs for the likes of Port Adelaide and the financially struggling Adelaide Crows? It’s beyond me.

The Western Bulldogs have a plethora of talent and financial ingenuity to pay theses players after they have won 3 or 4 premiership (or so we hear thats whats going to happen) with in the next 6 years, history tells us that a club like the Bulldogs are simply a struggling organization that has not won a thing in 40 odd years, why is anything going to change now. St Kilda, West Coast, Freo, Swans, Brisbane and Port (both Will be regenerating a list to challenge for a premiership with in 18 months) and the crows have a bright future. Western Bulldogs have a long way to go before they can become a legitimate premiership threat

Ryan Griffin and Adam Cooney may publicly announce that they are going to be a lifetime member of the club but once the Crows and Power are continually play finals in front of 45,000 people and have the opportunity to play in a grand final; is the temptation to stay a bulldog for life going to be there? Players make statements regarding the future of their playing situation all the time, but end up going back on them sediments

p.s go away troll, go stay on your own board....come back when we play you again.
nothing like a good dose of humility! whoopee!

Not everything is about $. Look at St Kilda, they got a group of young guys together and the team is looking the goods so they're happy to take a pay cut to ensure it stays together and has a tilt at a flag or two.

As for on-field success - when was St Kilda's last flag?

The thing the dogs have going for them in keeping their young guns is that they're a new generation coming through... in actual fact, they own the future of the club. It's not a case of 1 good footballer having to float among a bunch of no-hopers and trying to keep him. Griffen will be playing with Cooney, Minson, Gian, Gilbee, Cross, McMahon, Harris, Hargrave, Murphy... these guys who are all good players (and half of them from SA).

I could understand thinking he'd leave if he was the only gun coming through in the team, but he isn't. I'd even go as far as saying finishing low for 2 years in a row is better than 1 for a number of reasons, 1 of those is you get potentially 4 top ten picks in that period and therefore can form a good nucleus of future stars.

Nathan Brown may have left the dogs partly because basically he was the only star who would still be there once the grants etc retired so the future looked grim and like you said, after 50 years with no success, the future looked like more of the same. But now it's different, we have a strong core group coming through.

I have 100% confidence that those boys will stick together.

As of Friday 5th of August 2005 in reality the Western bulldogs are not a premiership threat, the two losses I was talking about (Geelong and Brisbane) in my option flattered your club and gave the supporter a glimmer of hope of success this year but is not going to happen. In 2 years time when the Grants, Smiths, West, Johnson and Darcy are well into there twilight years (not necessarily retired) but not nearly as effect as they are now, you are going to have to fine 4 or 5 KKP, something I do not see happening at your club.

In 2 years time sure the player you mentioned are going to be gone or having very little contribution to the success of the side, but the Adelaide Crows have an opportunity to win now and in the present, not some time into the future.

mate ill give you the strong tip the bulldogs will be good in a couple of years, theyll beat the west coast this weekend. they have a lot of young talent especially through their midfield, west coast are proving at the moment with a good ruckman(minson in the dogs case) and a strong midfield you can afford to have average talls especially in the forward line....

Does anyone know if Ryan Griffen is the son of former South Adelaide player, Adelaide Teachers College Captain/Coach and Adelaide Uni Coach John Griffen?? He is about the same age as John's first child.
