Lets get on the kid for 2005. Future champion of the game and will no doubt, have a big 2005, coming back fitter, stronger and faster.

All those in favour of the Posse, put (RLFP) next to your club in the BigFooty clubs option.

If we get enough people involed, the BigFooty family will start to reconize the power of the Lone Ranger, as he kicks countless goals from in side the centre sqaure and leads Collingwood into the future.

He is a decent player, but, umm, what does LRFP mean?

Ryan Lonie Fan Posse, mate.

He'll be a champion, above decent currently, some will question his hardness, but with what he lacks in that area, he makes up with overall disposal and reading of the play.

Ryan Lonie > All.

For how long he has been at the club now and considering his first year heroics, he should be doing a lot more than what he is.

The time is now to stand up, Lones.

Yes but if you're a Collingwood youngster this is the way to be;

Lonie, Didak, Cole, Davis, J.Cloke, etc.

Has any youngster ever actually improved on a yearly basis?

Of course having said that, Lones is my 2nd favourite behind Dids...but you know.

Like a lot of the current players, he is too comfy hovering around being a gunna-be good player. Unfortunately this thread and others like it only add to their complacency.

Too ture. he is one of our two stingers, and needs to do it all the time. The time is now, Lones.

What he does, he usually does well. IMO, he just doesn't get the footy often enough however. If he could learn to find the footy a bit more, he would be a lot more dangerous, especially floating around the wing/half forward line.

Coming along nicely - the reason hes not getting a hell of a lot of ball is where hes being played - MM gave him the accountability thing last year - wanted him playing more as a backman rather than half backman - he'll be released further up the ground this year possibly on a wing - just watch

If Lones had the ball-winning ability of say McGough, he would be an absolute superstar.

Cole definately improved on a yearly basis no question.
Didak went from a bit player on the bench in 2002 to an inconsistant forward in 2003 but IMO had a better year than 2002 just on the basis of him getting more game time. In 2004 he had an incostistant year also but showed his stuff in the midfield and IMO improved his all round game. Its the fact that he didn't live up to high expectations that you think he didn't improve.
J.Cloke and Lonie have definately gone backwards and Davis by now should be getting better every year but looks to just be on the same level every year.

leave leon neon alone. i cant see jason cloke being a great player. he just hasnt got the skill. Didak has more potential than lonie but it'll be interesting to see who will become the better player in the upcoming years.

Lones' major problem, IMO, is that he's crap at loose ball gets.
I'm not inherently sure it's to do with hardness, but moreso with his inability to steady and pick the pill up, before a smaller opponent gets his mits on it.

I hope he's got some fire in his belly this year, as he's got the capability to be better than he's been.

I ain't joining no posse, but I'll join a mob.

I watched the Buckley DVD given out at the AGM and one comment Buckley made almost made me take the DVD and shove it under MM's nose. Buckley talked about his Magary, premiership, Oatey year at Port. He said the coach used his strengths and let him be an offensive weapon and gave him great confidence.

That's not a role for everyone but it should be role for blokes who can run and dob goals from outside 50 like Lonie or guys who can evade and kick them, from angles like Didak. I don’t see Pagan using Scotland defensively and I bet Thomas doesn’t want McGough to concentrate on his defensive game. He will be used and a ball getter and clearance specialist and in spite of what MM said at the agm, 8 years after Buckley has retired he’ll still be doing it.

I am sick of accountability being almost the only criteria. After 5 years it hasn't brought a flag. Now it's time for some attacking flair. We have tall marking forwards and players like Lonie who are far better as attacking players than defensive players. I wish we'd start using our strengths instead of our weaknesses. Lets get the ball forward and kick goals.

Look, I question getting rid of Scotland. At the time, I made the point that he was a good enough young player that you get rid of someone to make room for him.

However, with McGough, if you can't kick the ball accurately, and you can't run the ball because you're too slow, and you have no accountibility in your game, then you aren't going to be a great loss to any side.

McGough is good for a couple of handballs out of stoppages a game, and a whole heap of misdirected, ineffective kicks. His only value is to a team like St Kilda that has a lot of skilled outside midfielders that need to be fed.

vinnie, I can understand a guy like McGough being delisted because he has deficiencies. That wasn’t really my point. He wasn’t used as weapon utilising his strengths he was held back due to his deficiencies. That means he is not as effective as he should be as well as not having the trade value he might have. If you have a player or two you do that with then it isn’t a huge deal but that is the underlying plank of our team and our structure. That was my point. Players like Lonie and Didak are in the same boat to an extent. Maybe Cole as well. Throw Jason Cloke in. Rhyce Shaw is a classic example. FFS he is fast and he can read the play. Stick him on the wing and lets see if he can cause some damage when give the license to. If he can’t then fair enough he goes but what is the point in trying to play him as a defender. It just isn’t his game. Then we complain that he doesn’t do it well.

Even Buckley is an example. He gets played up forward. He has played 200odd games of footy. How many times has he been an effective forward? If you want to protect him play him lose across half back. He will create from there. It’s a much better option than using Lonie and you get to use Lonie on a wing or something.

Oh I couldn't agree more. I already have Lonie pencilled in as one of our wingmen of the future (Julian Rowe being the other) and I think that should be his position, but give Malthouse credit that he did play Lonie in places other than defense a lot this past year, giving him time in both the midfield and half forward. Towards the latter part of the season, Lonie actually played 3-4 games in a row almost exclusively at Half Forward.
