Ryan O'Keefe

Reported in the Fairfax Press here this morning that Sydney's Ryan O'Keefe has still not been re-signed for The Swans and hasn't ruled out a return to Melbourne.

Carlton, Essendon, Richmond & Collingwood "expected to lead the chase for him".

Interesting also he does not have a manager and conducts his own negotiations.

Thoughts on this?

I rate him very, very highly but again at 27yo, and at the cost it will probably take to get him I reckon he is not for us.

Jack Reiwoldt is our O'keefe in a year or two isn't he?

O'Keefes one my favourite players, but I'd have to say pass.

Why? Kerr has a year left on his contract. O'Keefe is out of contract. He could just walk out of Sydney if he wanted.

Another pass, at 27 he would be almost finished by time we had our player reach their prime. Sure he might help us finish 1-2 spots higher on the ladder, but if we want the club to have long term success we need to be investing in players who are going to be around for the next 10 years.

C'mon you can't really compare a 27yr old who has played 164 games to Riewoltd, Hughes, Schultz, Morton etc.....

For the record O'Keefe was drafted in 99 and played 43 games in first four years before cementing his place in the swans best 22.

Give the above mentioned young blokes the same chance.

If we picked him up we would have to shelve one of the young players so O'Keefe could play. And thats just plain dumb

Because the Swans have expressed interest in Didak and the skunks may be happy to cut him adrift for a player like O'Keefe.
