Ryder must have been reading Big Footy with his game today.

Big Footy posters encourage Ryder to be more assertive on the field and to be more assertive but he overdid today.

He spent most of the day trying to take the ' Mark of the Year ' and forgot to play sensible football.

It was one of his most disappointing games today.

Agree with him flying for marks. But i look at that and say that he is backing himself and showing confidence in his ability. He'll learn from it and will be a very good player for the Essendon Football Club

Goes back in defense & gets towled up by Nick Gill of all players! But beat J.Brown 8 weeks ago. Go figure.
Got what, one goal kicked on him in the last quarter?
Yes he was outplayed but c'mon, the midfield gave him no support and the Crows were doing whatever they pleased.
Our midfielders also don't drop back in the hole which is disappointing and makes it hard for the defenders

My concern is that Paddy didnt play the percentages and showed no respect for Gill.

Posters have been encouraging Ryder to be more assertive and to back himself more often but sadly he overdid today.

I had no problem with him going for those marks in the forward line. In fact he got both hand on about 3 attempts but just couldn't hold them. It's not like they were unrealistic attempts.

Made one stupid error in defence and had a poor game.

Like Pevers legend said - he got moved forward/back and was a bit off.

He seems to struggle a bit when moved around and needs to settle in one position. No real surprise as he's only 20.

He'll definitely play CHB for the whole of next year.

I really wished he stayed forward for the whole game - he looked super dangerous and normally would've swallowed those marks he dropped - could've kicked a few more goals.

As was said before, he didn't pay Gill enough respect in the final quarter

Knights should've made a decision.
He either played him forward all game or down back all game. You can't throw him from one end of the ground to the other because it will affect his form and he won't be able to settle into the game.

How bad are your rose coloured glasses ?
He simply played an ordinary couple of quarters of footy on Gill. With Fletcher off injured and lovett-Murray not exactly setting the world on fire what else did you want Knights to do ?
He played ordinary and got towled up becasue he kept playing from behind.

Did not mind him flying for marks when he was at CHF.
He was however very ordinary in defence.

I think our midfield also has a fair bit to answer for in regards to Nick Gill kicking a bag against us.
No accountabilty, second to the contest and no pressure just gave Adelaide time to size up forwards time and time again to hit him fat side laces out.

we werent playing to win..?

paddy has the rite to go for mark of the year.

people lay off him , the kid doesnt need to show gill respect

Gill is the quality of laycock. utter trash.

Paddy's marking was terrible yesterday. Went for about 4 speccys and dropped them all. Imo he should've gone down back when Fletcher came off, but Knights seemed to keep him forward for some reason.

Cant understand where some people are getting their figures from, some ridiculous post's made on the main board. Gill had 2 goals 1 at 3/4 time and got half his disposals in the last qtr. Ryder was made to look like a fool. Amazing that a now retired bloke who is constantly called too slow and over the hill could do a much better job than Ryder.

My thoughts exactly. I guess thats what happens when we Tank for Hurley.

How is it amazing? Ryder had a poor last quarter - he's 20 years old and played 50 games, he just came off a very good month and he had a poor finish to the game against the Crows in which was (up until 3/4 time) a respectable performance up forward.

heard on triple M yesterday, he went up for 27 contested marks and didn't take 1:(

What Triple M have in entertainment, they lack in pure footballing knowledge.

He simply backed himself to beat his opponents and in some cases it didn't work. I was more than happy to see him go for those marks and try to run off his opponent.

Only a month or 2 ago he was getting knocked for being to mindful of his opponents and not attacking the game

What a moronic comment.

Regardless of how good he is comparative to the rest of his team, he's still at AFL standard. When his midfield is killing ours, and he is playing forward, we need to give him respect regardless of whether it's Aaron Henneman or Jonathan Brown.

He doesn't have the "rite" to go for mark of the year when the ball is still 20 metres away. If he drops the mark, OK, he was a chance, but twice (at least) he leapt several seconds too early.

The fact is that Gill is a reasonable player, who has a high work rate, takes a strong contested mark, but is a terrible kick.

I wouldn't solely blame the midfield for Gill's performance.

Ryder played a poor game yesterday because he didn't play the percentages.

It happens to all players from time to time.

Yesterday was one of his poorer games no doubt, but he has been one of our most consistent peformers all year so I am not going up in flames over one game. Personally, though I dont encourage going for mark of the year in defence, I enjoyed seeing Paddy take the game on more.
