Because he's a gun.

Won't happen though. They'd ask for Gibbs (and possibly an exhange of second rounders) in exchange.

No deal.

Lol for real? That's the only reason? If that's the case we should aim higher, go after Riewoldt, Ablett etc. If Boak hasn't said he wants to come to Carlton don't see why everyone is mentioning him. No chance of getting him. Why waste time talking about him when we could talk about a realistic chance like Burgoyne who is whom the thread is meant to be about anyways

How do the Hawks expect to sign him to a deal (for a fair whack of $$ you would assume), retain Hodge, Franklin, Roughead, Rioli (and company) AND have money left over to sign a the key defender that they so desperately need?

They do have the picks/ young talent to make it happen however.

Just would have thought his asking price in terms of $$ would be a bit steep.

Maybe they might retire Croad?
Sounds like he will end up like Matthew Egan, which is unfortunate to lose two good players to busted feet.

Egan could of been anything.

Well of course it's all here-say and supposition in silly season, but lets be honest, Victorian kid, family rabid carlton supporters, more exciting list of young players, who wouldn't rather play for Carlton ?;)

His from Torquay and the family were all Geelong supporters. Stop making things up.

Thats what he said just to make you nongs over in South Australia feel better...

from what the Power crowd are saying, a low 1st round pick plus a good player. Heard a rumour over here that Carlton was considering pick #11 plus the T-Bird as a trade for Burgoyne.
Hope it aint so.

FFS, it's a wonder you haven't troubled the Darwin awards yet ;)

Your sig is growing at an alarming rate. Where would the board be if we all decided to use our allowable quota? Probably using the Dewey system to find things. Very disappointing, Spoofallini72.

What's Salopek's story? Injured? Not getting a game. This year wasn't his best, but last year showed he could be very good.

The Dewey system eh?? You must be the life of the Kinglake social set ;)

Interesting to see how it plays out if this is true and Melbourne gets the nod...

PSD?
Smart play by his manager IMO.

Port would threaten to send him to the PSD if they didn't get the pick they want.......if he says he'd be more than happy to go to the Dees then there is no threat.

Puts it back on the club to deal up or call his bluff.:thumbsu:

Assuming its not a 'bluff' or manouvering to name Melbourne as an option, and he does select Melbourne as his preffered club...

Would Melbourne:

a) Shaft the Power, play hardball, and let him slide to the PSD?
b) Offer a token pick (third rounder) to look less like assholes?
c) Offer something close to value?

Be interesting if this goes down.

Stupidest, most misleading headline this year? Talk about a con job.

Choco eyes Judd deal for Burgoyne

HAWTHORN will have to offer far better than its first-round draft pick if it wishes to complete a trade with Port Adelaide for Shaun Burgoyne, according to Power coach Mark Williams.

The Hawks have firmed as favourites to claim classy centreman Burgoyne after he quit the Alberton club earlier this week, and Hawks list manager Chris Pelchen has indicated that all his club's first three national draft choices could be on the trade table.

But Williams was adamant that Port would gain quality commensurate with Burgoyne's high value.

He also indicated he had told Burgoyne he would have to be tough in trade negotiations.

"I've already told Shaun that even though we're very good friends and have had some great experiences together, some time in the near future he's going to feel like I'm being pretty tough on both him and the club he wants to go to," Williams said.
"He's trying to improve his position and get to where he wants to be, so we have to have our own interests in mind.

"We're still mindful of what we can get for the trade and hopefully the outcome of that is positive for the club.

"There's talk that Hawthorn is willing to offer pick No. 9 to get Shaun.

"But history will show that Chris Judd cost Carlton pick No. 3 as well as Josh Kennedy, so I wouldn't think that pick No. 9 would be a good match.

"I'm not interested in a blue-sky pick.

"Shaun Burgoyne is a brilliant player and the team that gets him will be very, very lucky."

Kennedy went to West Coast, along with picks three and 20 in exchange for Judd and pick 46.

But Judd, apart from bring a Brownlow medallist, two-time best-and-fairest and premiership captain when at West Coast, was only 25 when traded.

Burgoyne has not won a club best-and-fairest and will be 27 in October.

Williams, who knows Burgoyne better than most, said there was no chance of the 2006 All-Australian player rescinding his decision to leave.

"Shaun Burgoyne is a very determined person," he said.

"He's very single-minded and that's why I'm of the opinion he's not coming back to Port Adelaide.

"Once Shaun's mind is set on something that's usually what he does."
