I find it very difficult to get enthused by the whole State of Origin thing, and the drip-feed of articles trying to build momentum is annoyingly cynical. I think it is just an attempt to schedule another game so that the networks have to pay more to show it (probably wasn't included in the original rights, so the AFL can now go to market for it) as well as another chance to get revenue at the gate (that the clubs won't benefit from).

It's like it was brought back by the same people who want to bring back Hey Hey It's Saturday.

Watch for the manufactured 'rivalry' of old players trying to slag off the other states in future articles/videos.

I hate to say it, Bedders, but it won't be the same as you remember and there won't be the same passion. It really belongs to an era when SA and WA had no way of measuring their own comps against the VFL who was poaching their best players, so it provided them with a chance to get them back.

The footy landscape has changed now and I think there will be more a sense of curiosity than passion with this game.

I know its not cool to say it in these "enlightened" times, but I loved Hey Hey.

It had some genuinely hilarious bits - unfortunately there were also a few aspects that don't align to modern sensibilities.

I have almost finished writing a book on the old AFC Night Series and I am including a chapter on the path towards a national league between the late 1970s and 1987.

Living in Perth, it is almost impossible to track down a copy of Shake Down The Thunder by Jim Main in any local library or second hand shops and I am hoping someone can help me with details for two footnotes.

I am seeking a screen shot of the relevant page(s) to cross check the accuracy of the information that I have as well as the page number in the book for this information.

The first is the reference to Fitzroy potentially becoming the Sydney Lions.

Bibby’s solution was to relocate the club to Sydney and play as the Sydney Lions, with the only change to the club’s guernsey being a gold SFC monogram on the chest instead of FFC. The club was serious enough for solicitor David Cotter to register the name ‘Sydney Lions’.

The second is in reference to the South Melbourne players taking strike action in late 1981.

After a dispute between the South Melbourne board and striking players, matters were resolved on Christmas Eve and the club headed north to Sydney.

Naturally, I will credit you in the bibliography for your assistance in providing this information.
