Yes, and McQualter is our new full Forward option...

I have it on very good authority... really... would I lie...?

seriously.

I play Gaelic football i the off season.
The club I play for has had contact from the Saints lately.

all I am saying is don't be suprised if they send a scout across to Ireland this year and pick up a few rookies.

Just what we need, faster quicker players. I think its a great idea. Would we draft them the normal way or do you get special drafting due to them being from eyeland?

I think all 16 clubs will employ a talent scout in Ireland over the next 5-15 years. Untapped source of players. AFL will never make it big, not even little as an international sport. Places like Ireland and South Africa coould produce a few players for sure.

AFL to target young Irish talent

The Australian Football League are set to targeting players from Gaelic football when they launch an extensive recruitment drive in Ireland.

Former professional Australian Rules footballer Ricky Nixon, now managing director of a sports marketing company, plans to place scouts in Ireland to assess young local talent.

They hope to unearth another Sydney Swans' Tadhg Kennelly or Collingwood's Martin Clarke, who both switched codes to play in the AFL.

Nixon has sent a letter to all 16 AFL clubs, hoping to spark interest in the scheme.

Few clubs have contacts in Ireland but a dedicated recruitment strategy, with scouts at school, junior and senior matches, could result in further departures to Australia.

This could also test the already fragile relationship between the AFL and the GAA.
