Good decision from the Saints, they got the best man available.

Not a massive blow to us, he was our defensive coach last year, and I'm sure we have a few names lined up to replace him.

Would Ben Hart take over the backline straight away?

Deal Laidley?
I doubt it, he was in line for the job that we gave Eade.

The replacement for Watters is almost certain to be an assistant coach type, someone who has no senior experience in the AFL, but who can develop in the role.

Ironically Robert Harvey was linked to us a few days ago, but I hope to god that's not true, as he's been at Carlton and St Kilda, not exactly great club values to have on your resume.;)

dunno what they expect with that list. Might get top 8 if really lucky this year but will bottom out before the go up again. i hope they give the bloke a good chance

We wanted Ross to be a long term coach. Have no doubts we'll give him every chance and keep him here as long as possible.

Unless he's a spud. :D Which I somehow doubt.

Maybe he can teach Zac how to defend against Cloke ;)

But yeah, credit to Mick. Seems like he's a mastermind mentor.

Good luck to him. Next year there will be 5 recent ex Collingwood assistants coaching against each other. -Scott, Bucks, McKenna, Watters and Neeld.

That must say something about our coaching staff. Simply the best :D

I think so. I read Watters was going to be our midfield coach anyway and Hart had been reported as our backline coach.

We need 2 new assistants now. Opposition coach and midfield coach. I'd like to have a dip at Alan Richardson. The youngsters really liked him when he was here and he, along with Brad Scott, set up our development program.

Congratulations to Scotty Watters but I feel he is on a hiding to nothing. That list has been cruelled by terrible drafting and trading. They have zero quality youngsters. McEvoy at a pinch. Watters loves playing his youth. Expect a clean out soon.

So the only assistant coach we've kept from 2011 is Lappin? Not so great. I thought a priority was supposed to be keeping the support staff around Buckley the same, we're starting from scratch with practically an entirely new coaching staff, doesn't bode too well for a club looking for stability in a premiership window.

True. We'll soon find out how valuable assistant coaches really are.

I'd be interested to learn how you stop a clubs assistant coaches applying for jobs as coaches in their own right. How would you have dealt with it?

lol half the competitions coaches are Collingwood assistant coaches.

Watch prospective assistants line up for a taste of the Westpac action.

On a serious note, congratulations to him. Well deserved.

McRae, Lappin and Bucks are there from last year, Walsh, Butters and Hine are still there supporting and Pert and Eddie still run the show.

Mick, Neeld and Watters are gone, 3 guys out of dozens of staff, Eade and Hart come in, 2 bloke that have plenty of knowledge and experience. also gives Bucks the opportunity To really shape the coaching leadership without senior assistants under MM looking over his shoulder/second guessing.

Also, congrats to Watters!

The only upside to this whole massive passive of coaching assistant coaches is they will be lining up in the dozens to get an assistant coaching job at Collingwood...

This is by no means good for Collingwood Watters was very good.. hopefully his replaced with somone as good
