Saints announce Watters as Coach

We'll find suitable replacements for Neeldy and Watters.

At the end of the day, neither of them had any AFL coaching experience when we obtained them but were successful coaching in their own right with their own TAC/WAFL sides. They blossomed just as much under our system as we did by having them.

Dale Tapping has gone down a similar pathway to both of the guys above by steering Sandringham to a flag a few weeks ago so he too has had a track record of success in other competitions. I'm sure he will blossom under our system too. Ditto Ben Hart.

We won't be short of applicants that's for sure.

I'd like us to target Nigel Lappin and offer him a contract he can't refuse.

Is Maxy Hudghton still on our payroll?

He's still listed as a staff member of the club. But so are Malthouse, Neeld and Watters. That probably didn't help answer your question :p But I havn't seen it mentioned that we have let him go so you presume he is still the defensive coach.

Congrats to Watters. Neeld is clearly already changing the culture at Melbourne.

I don't think it is such a bad thing. Most CEOs like to sweep through companies and start fresh even if it means that dependable employees move on.

Bucks has been working alongside this great coaching staff for 2 years such was the power of the succession plan. He will have his own fresh ideas and thoughts. With new assistants he gets a clean start to say this is how I do it.

The players get fresh faces and have their input to changes.

It's exciting really these changes implemented on us that are out of our control.

I hope people don't forget Bucks also comes out of the system as a MM assistant like these others. If other clubs believe Scott, Neeld, Watters and McKenna are/were ready then Bucks is more than ready.

Alls well :)

Most certainly is. Ideal bloke to fill the vacant spot you'd think.

I thought that Max was only part-time due to his business commitments.

One person I have hear good reports about is Basset in Adelaide. apparently he has done some good things coaching his own in SA.

Congrats to Scott Watters.

If he can prevent the Saints tailing off over the next three or four years he'll be doing really well.

They should still be OK this year, but as their stars get a bit older/retire/lose Goddard, then they appear to have a hole, due to some recruitment of spuds instead of kids over the past years.

They got so close twice, so their strategy came within a whisker of paying off.
But it didn't. In theory, there should now be a price to pay.
Watters has a big task now.

The upside of all our guys going to all these other clubs ( Saints, Dees, NM, WCE, GC) hopefully it may make trading a tiny bit easier with them...or is that being naive?

Bassett has been a good coach at Norwood since finishing playing. He would be a great get but I don't think he would come.

Now that Ross is gone and watters is coach do we have the same hatetread for them.
