Autopsy Saints v Dees

I understand that Van Rooyen kicked a bag but Caminiti tried hard all day and wasn’t that bad - the delivery to him was excellent….because he was infront on the lead. Not pointing to the sky or standing still with arms out. Howard is slower than Camaniti and can’t kick.

Serious questions have to be asked as to why there was an extension last year that simply didn’t warrant one to the coach? Why was the list manager allowed to bring in his son who isn’t up to all standard? How is your best small hard defender not getting a game but it’s another Carlton reject is gifted games?
Also, why is there never any heat or pressure on Higgins?

Just got home, very flat.
The boys looked like they had heavy legs from the start, no zing whatsoever.

Nas must be carrying something, why was he never in the centre square?
McRae and Phillipou gave us nothing.

Banfield, Clark into this side.

Boxshall looks like he needs to go back to the twos. He'll be ok, but looks a bit lost at the level.

TDK got monstered, thought Owens was our best ruckman. Hall, Owens and Windhager very good. Hall is our second best player, now.

He's such an arrogant piece of shit who never takes accountability after a loss with his smartass ****ing comments. SHOW SOME ****ING humility and ACCEPT THE CONSEQUENCES FOR ONCE
Club only has itself to blame - this is what he was like last time and and Fremantle. Just decided he is a god and we needed him to get the second elusive premiership. All he ever will be is the afl’s best loser as a coach

When are you Ross Lyon cultists going to wake up that he is so far past his used by date and has been for a long time?

What will it take to realise our collective kicking game will never be up to scratch with Ross in charge?

Get your head out of the sand for god’s sake. Our club depends on it.
If we reach the (middle year) bye and things haven't improved.

Giants, Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Regular Adelaide, West Coast, Carlton, Gold Coast, Richmond, Dockers, Hawthorn, Swans, Giants, Western Bulldogs

We will know exactly where the team is at when our Bye comes in round 16.

I’m the #1 Ross ticket holder.

But we have to lose Caminiti from the squad.

JSos and Wilkie are paid to hold down the key posts.

Tauru has to be free to be the third man, and we need to give him the leg rope to do it.

Too slow out the back half with 4 bigs - most teams don’t have 3 genuine key forwards.

Other than that, we should’ve won again.

Won all the major stats, just lacking the class and composure to win it.

Ross can’t get out there and take the symbols out of Coopers hands or tell Higgins to take his time and not make the same mistake he does almost every time he needs to take a pressured shot.

Macrae and Wood need to be replaced… but we need the young guys to be beating down the door to replace them. We can’t just gift them the games because otherwise we just go back to the Dunstan/Billings/Clark era of young guys thinking it’s a right and not earnt to play AFL footy

Cannot imagine why Ross has us playing this way. Fast open football has never been our go and certainly not how Ross coaches. We have to get back to defensive clogged up midfield football. We won’t beat too many playing this way.

Marvel might help not as wide easy to clog it up.

That ship has sailed.
The days of being completely defensive are done. The league is making sure that it gets quicker.

Another disappointing loss but I wasn't that surprised, we aren't as good as people thought
This is the thing.
We were the only team to lose to West Coast

And just in August alone:
  • We were down 46 against Melbourne
  • Beat North by 9
  • Beat Richmond by 4
  • Beat Essenodn by 2

The 2026 results so far are a continuation of the team that produced the above results

This team has proven nothing on the field to justify the big expectations set

My alarm bells are ringing in regards to the lack of needle moving improvement from the likes of Phillipou, Tauru, Boxshall, Owens, Windhager, Wilson etc

The game plan is shocking. We look rudderless. 4 players going at one ball while other sides have players standing back to receive the pass. We have 4 forwards crash each other, three defenders all go at one player etc.

There is zero system or cohesion.
Four players going at one footy is a combination of composure and footy IQ - not coaching

Let's be honest.

Right here and now we have gone backwards both player wise and coaching wise.

And that is against 2 teams who might not make the 8 this year.

Our midfield looks dreadful.

Fir a team who is meant to be a run and carry team, our connection is poor.

We lack forward structure.

Many players our down on form.

Taura is being gifted games when he is not up to it at present, especially with disposing it.

Top picks on athletes over footballers is not looking too rosey at present.

Our best and most effective players are "footballers". Many from late pics or rookie or msd.

We have way too many poor users of the ball. This gs could be ugly when we play teams chock-full of good ball users.

Coaching wise we are a mess in terms of what is happening on field.

Nas is playing too cute at times. Gresham like lairy kicks. Opposition players have studied his moves now. He is quality, but needs to reign it in a bit for effectiveness.

Hall. Today would have been grimmer without him.

2 games in, and things are not looking good.
We needed to add experience and class to become competitive - and we added De Koning, Silvagni, Flanders and Ryan.

Past that we needed luck with injuries, noting the absence today of King, Howard, Marshall, Henry and Clark - and also Byrnes who would have been very handy with his pace, work rate and skills.

If you look at changes for next week, apart from those on the injury List and becoming available, there are Stocker, Barratt, Hastie, Banfield, Dow, Collard, Said, Armstrong, Butler, Dodson, Tavaglia and Fincher, who steps up to impact on a game?

And it appeared to me that we may have some from today's side not available next week.

The summary of this is to say that we need our best 23 on the park to become competitive - because apart from them, the cattle are just not there - we have basically kids still in development phase.

The question for me is who do King, Howard, Marshall, Henry, Clark and Byrnes replace?

And, on performances so far this season, there are plenty in the frame - including some who you would name in our preferred 23 on the field.

And what does our side look like with these 6 available?

If you only have a preferred 23, the remainder at development phase, the problems we see so far this season were always the problem.

We recruited the likes of Stocker, Dow and Carroll to fill that demographic hole in our List, and they are capable at best.

We do need to stick with the likes of Hall, Tauru, Keeler (who, given TOG was OK), Wilson, Boxshall and Phillipou to see what improvement comes when supported by our key experienced players becoming available.

So who does that put the spotlight on?

Those who offered in pre season that our depth was improved needed to include a caveat - that our best 23 are on the park.

I was the biggest backer of him. I was wrong. We deserve better than this crap.

He has another at the club who has been drinking his own bath water, surely todays loss is sufficient evidence that Ross is struggling big time.

We have brought in a number of new players in TDK, Flanders, Ryan and JSOS and we also have a lot of younger players as well.

You can't expect us to play like a cohesive team like we did in 2009 and 2010 when we had players that had played a lot together.

That being said we also had better players back then and RTB was probably a better coach than he is now, he has lost his edge.

He’s a textbook narcissist. As is his great mate SOS, and his great mate the Dodo.

Birds of a feather…

Started watching Ross' post game presser just now and had to stop...

"I did say to them, Paul Roos went to a premiership on indicators, dropped marks, fumbles and tackling efficiency, so if we just dive into those, we're on the negative side of the ledger".

campaigner I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU AND PAUL ROOS DID 21 YEARS AGO, THINGS CHANGE.

Collingwood killed us last week on rebound and with speed after we picked 4 tall defenders and 2 rucks, then when one of our rucks got injured, you replaced him with another tall. Keeler coming in was the wrong choice, the game is more rapid and heavily weighted on running than ever.

Carroll is not accountable defensively, this feels like another attempt at a Riley Bonner type back, just ****ing play Stocker who is actually accountable and tough. We've just had Webster retire, we don't need another link up running back/wing type, we need a hard nosed defender for smalls and mid sized forwards.

With Ryan and Phillipou getting injured, our taller team was even more under the pump, and it was obvious we left ourselves open to that after last week.

Last weeks loss felt like a learning experience and a bit of inefficiency and growing pains for a fair bit of change to the 22, but also highlighted the risk of going too tall with this new 23 bench season and fast, rebounding, high scoring play we've seen.

This weeks team and loss just feels kind of like arrogance from the club/coaches.

No prizes for claiming Sharman has lost confidence, but like St Kilda, I’m out of options.

If that is our best side, I have to ask, as we used to ask on that other forum, about 2/3 of the way through the season , ‘Has North Melbourne gone past St Kilda?’

What do you want him to say?

Roast the sports science team?

Roast Nas?

I doubt Ross was in the box telling them to drag Nas post goal
He was asked why he moved him to full forward then took him off after kicking a goal when the game was there to be won- no answer was really given on this he just dribbled complete crap to try and deflect and justify his own ego. This is the entire problem with this club - can’t take ownership of mistakes and it’s always a fault of someone or something else
