Autopsy Saints v Dees

In America the kids set traps for leprechauns on St Patrick’s day and ask for wishes. After my daughter sat with me for the game, this is what she came up with.
That’s way more wholesome than what happened the last time St Kilda trapped some leprechauns lol

The way we have played the last two weeks, trying to take the game on at every opportunity, is quite a clear change from the majority of last year. Too often last year we'd get stuck coming out of defence. Having not talls down the line didn't help that too.

In past years under Lyon, I feel like we would have shut up shop and flooded the backline to stem the flow. It was interesting that we never tried to do that and kept going with the crazy attacking plan.

This left our defence very vulnerable, and mistakes become way more costly when you have a back 6 rather than a back 10 like we used to have, plus no midfield pressure on the ball coming in.

I genuinely think they're trying something different to kick a winning score compared to previous years, but it is failing miserably right now.
What Im hoping for is we are getting used to this new game style and the speed we are trying to go at is causing the skill errors. Hoping that once we get used to it, the skill errors and fumbles reduce and we go on for the 3 peat lol. Probably need to find another gear tho, we seem to either be trying to go flat out or come to a standstill

It all clicked for them, we played like a dogs breakfast and we lose by 13 ? Make it make sense.
Well thats interesting and true. We are clearly making some terrible errors - kicking, missed easy goals, dropped marks, fumbles, spoiling each other in the air and all going up leaving little support on the ground. With all that we have lost the last 2 games by around 2 goals each.

I just hope these issues are able to be cleaned up.

Also, Dees also looked good because due to said errors they smashed us on turnover. They did look very good tho with a few list changes and the new coach

the pile on is extraordinary. some of the takes are unbelievably stupid, yet they're broadcast on national tv!!!

as for caro... the need to take the AFL angle on the acadamies is hilarious. 4 clubs out of 18 and she makes it out like its the majority of clubs

TDK was excellent over pre-season and also the first game. gets the flu and suddenly he's a bust. Liam Ryan cost us **** all. JSOS granted but thats more a battle discussion. Now suddenly Flanders means we've passed on Pickett... never mind who we already have in those positions. Suddenly we shouldnt be paying Nas 2 million.

what kind of ****in bullshit is this

My daughter texted me on her way home from the MCG on Sunday & said... "eff you dad, you've given me a lifetime of misery making me a Saints fan".

And was on the news saying that Nas own the bench for 7 minutes in the final quarter was mind boggling. Again hard to argue against. Our coaches have had a couple of absolute crap weeks in the box.
Did you see/ listen to Kenny’s comments a couple of pages back in the thread?
He’s a coach. He’s been there and done that.
I’m happy to listen to his take.

Hope you grounded her for a week.

You could easily see the high potential so it's a fair argument. I really wanted Flanders but I think he's looking C grade at this point. He's a lot like Rylie Bonner. Just does too many fundamental errors and doesn't win his own ball. He's starting to look like he might have been a good player in a good side with no more levels to go to up. At $900k per year you want some level of value for money and not a project GOP. He's closer to Byrnes than Max Hall.
Jeez, Gringo.
Not like you to go off so quickly.
He’s probably still trying to find the best way to RSEA park.
With the greatest respect, you seriously need to chill on this one.

Oh FFS.
This is why I watch very few / occasionally none of the footy shows when I used to be glued to them all.
Sensationalist cr*p.
I suppose it’s what happens when you have 64 000 journalists covering one national game.

4 years in. His list.

I judge him.

This. Bloke was given the keys to the city, licence to rebuild and bring in who he wanted. Got the band back together (Dal Santo, Goddard, Hayes) and got to appoint who he wanted, even the head of the football department for a bit last year.

Bloke has wanted for nothing in terms of planning and building the club up to this year, yes the comp is unequal (draft, expansion club goals of AFL house) but we've got to have some level of competitiveness to show for his vision.

Not even win - lose wise, but in terms of clear vision, game plan and use of the blokes brought in to the club and young recruited lads that have been given game time (looking at Caminiti, Pou, Owens, JSOS, TDK), need some game play return for investment soon.

No, she's the boss

I really thought our game plan change has made the team more nervous and panicky than before.. Even Wilkie, Sinclair and JSOS who were supppse to be reliable kicks were making costly turnovers, some really early in the game as well which sets the scene and the nervousness filters through the whole team..

What are Enright and the coaches doing? We don’t have experienced mids that has the composure and smarts to play fast.. if anything, our midfield even with Nas and De Koning is still missing that win the ball first ball pig, the Crouch, Neale, Dangerfield, Cripps type. Macrae is still good(apparently in best shape for a while), but he needs good support/balance around him? Windhager and Hall, rather than Philipou and Nas who can’t defend.
Macrae should be good, but is has been very average so far. Worst part is, he has always been a clean player but he is also making some skill errors. Perhaps our high octane running game is effecting out skills?

I was just told by a good sauce that a virus went through the team on Thursday/friday.

That would explain why quite a few looked cooked, couldn’t chase etc and some unusual bench time. TDK wouldn’t have played if Marshall was fit.
Its comforting to believe this. There were a few players who were uncharacteristically shithouse against Melbourne; Silvagni and Wilkie come immediately to mind but they weren't alone.

At times like this the quote that comes to mind is the ol chestnut from the great sage Mike Tyson:

"Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth."

I want to see us get up off the canvas, wipe the blood off, and raise the dukes. I have absolutely no doubt that we are better - much better - than we have shown so far this season, and I am confident we will work through our problems, obviously the sooner the better in terms of finals but im really just looking for progress and giving the team the experience they need to become adaptable and irresistible.

We'll see this weekend if they are still punch drunk or not.
