I agree, but the thing is.... he did it 6 weeks ago and it worked.

Like ****ing hell we go back to Smith, Murphy and of course the Laird midfield thing.... yet when he pulls a lever that actually does work, we dont do it again.
He’s ****ing moron, not sure how many times I have to repeat it

Better than the other options we had this year, at least
Maybe but was he that much better than Dowling that you thought "he could be a 200 gamer in the guts for us"*

*I mean I know Murph got to 120 games and we have a history of letting players slip through because they are hard trainers but as a serious career, I just don't see teams picking him up if we delisted him last year

I was wrong

Has improved very much this year
Ideally he still is depth though.

The sort of guy who is your 6th midfield rotation or can come in for an injury and do a solid job.

Hopefully he'll soon behind guys like Curtin and Draper as well as the names like Rachele, Rankine, Soligo, Dawson and Peatling

Will be an interesting contract negotiation. He isn't a player we want to keep at all costs and we are reaching a point where we can't keep everyone and have to look at ways of improving the list.

Shouldn't be any more than three years on offer. Hard to gauge what his trade value would be, maybe a pick in the 20's?

If someone gave us a pick in the 20s for Sam, assuming a Zac Bailey comes in then you'd have to look at it. Id love us to have a look at Edwards in particular first before we make that call though.

If we dont rate what Charlie has done in 3 years then you're better off keeping Berry as depth.

Sam Berry is the best midfielder in the side whose best position is in the midfield.
I prefer that player to be Peatling. Dawson, Rankine, Rachele, Curtin, Soligo and Draper is the midfield going forward. Will trade Berry for pick in the 20s and especially for late 1st rounder, he will get offer more money elsewhere.

And yet we have an All Australian midfielder

And a guy who just put up 26 and 2.

Really, this whole "best position is a midfielder" is a real mouthbreather argument.

You always have a role for Berry or Peatling as the defensive midfielder. What we need to decide by the end of the year is if we prefer Berry and by how much. We're committed to Peatling contractually, so if the difference is negligible you probably bite the bullet and lose Berry. If we think Berry is significantly superior, that becomes an interesting list decision.

No one would give us pick 20 for Berry, definitely not a full-time starter by choice.
