You dont think Morris is going to be expecting $1m a year from his next contract? The Ashcrofts too. Not to mention the other kids who are playing brilliant football.

Yeah but Brisbane will manage those easily.

Zorko and Neale off the books shortly. Joey retiring early would have helped.

They will be more than fine.

I just dont understand why Brisbane are looking at spending up to $2m a year for 2 players who seem to always be injured.

Are they really that desperate and worried?

Shrewd list management

Our interest in Sam Draper or any ruck for that matter increased over the last 2 months. Best guess in our board is Big O might pull the pin end of year which leaves us with Fort and unproven Henry Smith. We are in the window and we need someone mature and ready to go fill that gap.

Also - if its a salary cap only deal without needing a trade, we'll be all over it.

I wake up daily praying to the footy gods you guys win whatever race their is for Draper. I can't work out why on earth the crows are keen. Just hold ROB, get a developing ruck and move on

Our medical team has a good history of getting injured players on the park for at least some football. Addams had issues with his knees, McCarthy had problems all over the place, Daniher was always injured, Ah Chee had issues too. We've had a good run of getting players back on the park. If the club backs the recruitment, it generally means they know what they are getting into.

In two years time, Neale will be nowhere near the money he is on now (if he re-signs), there will be no Omac, Lester, McCarthy or Zorko, Starce is probably gone, and Ah Chee will be on the last years of his next contact. There's also a lot of front/backending going on with contracts at the Lions, as the club is very aware that there's a lot of big contracts coming up for Bailey, Ashcroft x2, Fletcher, Moris, Coleman, Annable, Marshall and a couple of others. Don't think this will be an issue.

You are missing one big part though - Draper believes he's a big profile player. From his perspective he'd rather prefer to stay in Melbourne or go home to Adelaide. As much as we're being trumpeted to be in the race, I believe we are coming third currently.

Crazy Fagan.

He can believe all he wants, I don;t want him anywhere near my footy club if we are serious about building a premiership list

Draper wants a weekly radio segment with ROWEY. Lions a distant third option, I'm so devastated :'(

Draper was really good this year as a forward. If your SC team backs themselves in to keep him healthy and he only costs money in an environment where the cap is rising wildly and no player capital/draft capital is spent then why not. (If Adelaide or Brisbane)

At Essendon he’s really competing with wright for 1 spot and it makes more sense just to keep wright due to contract/trade value

You could easily get a cheap mature ruck on half the salary for a 3rd round pick who will be less useless than Draper. I have no idea why you are chasing him.

I want to see the Crows fans heads explode when he lines up straight in front from 20 and misses.

Fun times for Port supporters.

Dom Ambrogio is drunk with hubris after basically nailing every single FA/Trade decision for the last 8 years. Law of averages suggests that he was going to make a bad decision at some point I suppose.

I can understand why they are desperate for a ruck with Fort and O almost done. But I think Draper is the wrong target.

Because it realistically won't be up to $2 million. It will be closer to 1.4 to 1.6. Now you could argue that's still overs. But not if we can keep them healthy.
