Senior List
I don't understand how a club of 16 premierships supported by a large member & supporter base has achieved nothing in my opinion from 2005 onwards.
What has really changed over those years? Well Fletchers remained a champion that hasn't changed. Winderlich continues to have injuries but when hes on the field were twice as good. Watson's become a potential brownlow medalist which is amazing. Courtney Dempsey looks like a classy player of premiership quality. Carlisle has displayed the talent to play CHB or CHF. Crameri ozzes strength and blistering pace enough to scare any opposing club. Dyson went from a potentially delisted player to the 22. These are all positives.
However, Hurley is having trouble with his hands and hamstrings. Given the soft tissues injuries have been common in 2012 I don't think I'd raise his hamstrings as a huge issue. However, anytime i see Hurley playing his fingers are tapped. I've noticed he's dropped a lot of easy marks that he would normally take when in form. I hope that his 'hand injuries' aren't going to be an ongoing problem.
I am losing patience for Ryder. This bloke is a star like Hurley. He has the most casual kicking action I've ever seen and the most reliable one at the EFC imo. He has pace for a big man and he has smarts around the ball. But im so tried of watching him play a good game one week and then be a no show next week. I think the EFC need to seriously think about this. Ryder plays ok with Hille but with Bellchambers he doesn't seem to get involved as much. But his best is usually when he plays the sole Ruckman on the ground.
I believe that Bellchambers is a real positive in 2012. But the question is do you hold onto him or do you trade him. I think we should hold onto him because he seriously looks like he can play. But the issue in my eyes then becomes Ryder & Bellchambers ability to cohesively produce their best.
I am tired of players like Angus Monfries. A player that has produced some good performances in the forward pocket but imo a list clogger. If he wants to play the midfield then I don't think its a good fit for Essendon. All year I watched him try and play that "defensive forward" role or "midfielder" but he just looked slow. The amount of times he didn't look up to it or provide any real value in my opinion on the field was to many. Interestingly, he seemed to be subbed out a lot for a player who is supposedly on big money at Essendon.
I am tired of players like Jake Melksham. A player who in my opinion was the most disappointing in 2012. He seemed non-influential and couldn't win any inside ball. He just didn't provide a lot in the midfield. For a player that dominated the TAC, does boxing and was spoken very highly by Ken Fletcher he has produced very little. Melskham to me seems like a well balanced player, his kicking is decent but his flaw is that he's slow and unable to influence the contests.
Can we see a theme here? Incase you havent it's slow midfielders that can't win the inside ball.
Or maybe we wan't to talk about a players who can win the inside ball but they are slow. Who falls into that category?
1. Watson
2. Howlett
3. Hocking
4. Stanton
5. Lonergan
Watson being an elite player has all the time in the world. Has the bullet like handball passes. Effective kicking and leadership qualities. I believe he is better than Sam Mitchell because he is versatile (full forward) if need be.
Howlett is another decent player for us. Can play inside/outside and love what he brings to the EFC. The thing that I admire about him is, he knows his limitations and doesn't get run down like Stanton.
Hocking provides brute force, strength in the hips around the contests like Watson. He is a very good player.
Stanton has everything except for leg speed. Its the reason why he gets so much attention from supporters within the club. I think every supporter would agree that it's important that a player knows their limitations. I am so tired of watching him get caught holding the ball.
Lonergan slow but verstile can play inside or forward pocket.
Getting tired of hearing about how the EFC has "slow midfielders".
Zaharakis is good (pace, finishing skills, inside/outside ball winner) but wasn't on the park. Colyer can't kick so who cares if hes quick.
Don't get me started on the backline...
Hooker please trade him.
Hibberd thumbs up, tough, accountable, 2nd efforts, decent kick and classy in general.
Michael Ross thumbs up, tough, accountable, 2nd efforts, very very good kick, classy and will be a player.
Gumbleton if he won't accept one year then I hope he is part of a very good trade for Essendon. His last 6 games he showed star potential so he wont be 'cheap' on the trade table. I want to keep him but if we offered him to Adelaide with our 2nd round pick, with Tippet sent to GC and Caddy to Ess. I would be happy.
Other players that need to go are Lonergan, Monfries, Melksham, Jetta and Davey. You can only fumble the ball so many times when your a small forward. Its ridiculous and embarrassing to watch.
I'ts time the football club rebuilt and stopped kidding itself. Be active in trade week. I hope the EFC understand what its players are worth and what it costs to get a good player.
With a highly credentialed coaching panel, the 'elite' Geelong fitness coach and I could go on... what are we doing.. I am looking forward to the new facilities but heres the next big question.
WHY IS IT THAT I THINK THE EFC CANT ATTRACT MARQUEE PLAYERS? From 2005 onwards I rarely hear players nominating "essendon". Caddy last year was the exception but what did we offer? To be fair I think Hooker and a first rounder was paying overs for Caddy if this was the case, so im happy they rejected the trade. I look at Hawthorns list and they continually develop it. They have numerous stars all over the field. Over the years they have made decent trades and Sydney have benefited from it. What have we done? Home grown our own players... Well look were we are now.
