I think this is a fantastic idea! He could really teach the kids a lot......... about fishing........

I'm more than apprehensive after we could nearly make up a full team of all the failed projects. Seriously, we have more failed projects than the science teacher at the special school down the road!

That's a no thanks for me. :)

Sampi.

78 games,97 goals.

24 years of age.

Played in a Grand Final.

The thing about Sampi is this...he grew up in the bush, came to Perth and attended a school, showed unbelievable skills at junior level, gets drafted to the almighty WCE FC and finds himself in the middle of a mad circus he wasn't ready for or could handle..mentally.

After a few years of this (in the mean time still manages to kick nearly 100 goals) his close cousin dies. He hits a mental wall and loses the desire to train hard and watch his diet. He takes a break and goes back home where theres no tv,no KFC and no stress.

He starts to re-think his life in a big way and decides he wants to play elite football agan... the big time.

He's not a bad bloke. Just a young player from the bush who needed to take a break from city life. When he's switched on,he can be a lethal weapon.

But anyway...I think many of you are judging him for all the wrong reasons....

Why not our list is ordinary, we have two goal kickers who when they dont kick goals we lose, so why not add a quility crumbing forward such as sampi to rove off these two we already have, would be better than playing jj or mj up forward who we should of traded instead of solomen who has proved the club wrong with his attack and determination something that we also need

Hey Nobby, was there an article in the Perth paper a few months back saying that the Bombers were zeroing in on Judd and Sampi? That might of been the headline, come to think off it. I recived an e-mail with a copy of it, that showed Judd in a Bombers jumper. He looked good! But I wasn't sure if it was a fake or geniune. Clearly we won't be landing Judd but if it was a geniune article it shows that we may have some interest in Sampi. Of course that might all of changed since Sheedy is now going.

yeah because guerra, jacobs, everitt were definately not recycled players....

Jacobs and Everitt were recruited by Schwab, not Clarkson.

Guerra and Gilham have previously played games for other clubs before coming to Hawthorn.

FWIW, I'd think Essendon (like Hawthorn) would be better off looking at drafting a kid than punting on Sampi.

We have heaps of kids and I for one don't wanna wait around for another 4 years untill they mature and become regular players.

We need to bring in and add to our list a couple of experienced players next year from somewhere......where's the Leon Bakers of the modern game?:)

Here here Nobby.

I don't want to sit and wait years and years to become a good side again. Once you start planning for years in advance next thing you know 10 years have gone by with no success.

Gilham, Guerra - Hawthorn
Rodan - Port
Richards, Everitt, Hall, Davis - Sydney

Just a few that have had success at recruiting recently.

I hear ya kelvin....10 years without a decent crack at an appearance in a GF is just around the corner for us if we don't smarten up.

Sampi was just an idea folks.....not completely sold on the idea of him myself.

But we need to look at all options when it comes to recruiting 50-100 game players for next year. Some say we don't need any such players because we have an army of under 22s under our wing...but not all of them will work out.

History shows that (except for season 1993:)) you can't afford to sit around and wait for your youngsters to bloom at once. Campo was a gamble...I want the EFC to gamble again. We can afford it!

Yes, and thats why Campo and Heffernan are playing out their career at Bendigo.

A bit of topic but...

That's all the more reason to hang on to Monfries and not look at trading him for a first round pick to pick up up a key defender.

I'd rather take a punt on Jason Cloke to tell you the truth. If we were looking at trading, I'd think we would be after a midfielder, not yet another small forward.

Don't particularly want Sampi but would much prefer him to Cloke. At least he has shown he has the ability to play at AFL level if he can get his head right. Cloke is clearly not up to it, good VFL player but can't go to the next level.

Cloke's performances at AFL level would equal Sampi's imho. The difference between them is that only Cloke has looked like he wants to play AFL.

Cloke has struggled with playing on an opponent at AFL level, when allowed to be a free man in defense he has been serviceable but opposition coaches have long since worked that out and don't allow him to do it. Sampi on the other hand, has the potential to be a match winning forward.
