He is a great guy. It's unfortunate that being a good guy alone doesn't get you flags. I felt gutted for him yesterday, but after sleeping on it for a night I feel much better about the decision.
Roo's chat on it on MMM made it sound like they're not making the wrong decision. He defended that they're not going to hire Goodwin UNLESS he is the best man for the job. Roo got quite fired up at Dits suggesting that Roo will maintain the boys club.

9 est? Bloody Vics.First we're hearing 9am for the presser, then the Twitter feed says 9.30. Not sure what the right time is.
I still feel sorry for him. He was put in an absolute shit position by the Club. In 2012, we were flying. A kick away from a Grand Final. Lost his full forward and got no replacement. Lost the next two x 2 draft picks (although we won't be feeling that yet). Having said that, it became increasingly apparent, that without Bailey, Sando wasn't quite there as a senior coach. In 2013, we lose Bailey - through no fault of our own - for three quarters of the season. Sando struggled then. In late 2013 we find out that Bails is fighting for his life and he passes away before the 2014 season commences. Sando struggled again this season. The one common denominator? No Bails. Now to be hearing that he had lost the respect of the players... the Club absolutely made the right move. I just hope, though, that the players also critically assess their own part in this season. He can't claim unfair dismissal through Fair Work Australia due to threshold rules.
Whether the AFC is liable through the court depends on the contract, but I doubt it very much they would have a coach contract that is so unfavourable that the coach could sue for damages.
Chapman's been really good throughout this.Roo was brilliant on that. He spoke openly and honestly. He didn't lie. He kept confidential information confidential. He didn't dump on Sanderson.
That's a very tricky combination to pull off.
Chapman maybe be our Chairman in name, but it is name alone. Roo is our real chairman.
You cant even claim unfair dismissal if you are paid over $180KIf he went down this path would it alienate him from other clubs hiring him.

Was not player led. Roo and Noble had an idea it had to happen, player interviews confirmed it.And where is the discussion about the appropriateness of the so-called "player revolt"?
I am not sure how I feel about a player-led sacking of our Head Coach. Mixed feelings IMO.
Will need to get further info on this but it is certainly a pivotal moment in the history of the club.
Pictures or it didn't happenSitting in Chopin airport in Warsaw; catching up on this thread before I board my flight home after two amazing weeks eating/drinking/sleeping my way around Poland with a gorgeous Polish girl.
Sucks to be going home, but this is positive news to cheer me up a bit![]()

That is not what is being reported over here in Melbourne.
Led by Paddy and the leadership group.
Will have to wait and see what really happened.
I had the same thoughts. I don't think he at one point said "we need to do a better job tactically in the box" or "the coaches need to alter our structures to better suit the players" or anything like that. It was all "the players didn't do this" and "I need more help for this". While that may be true, he was pointing fingers at everyone else and didn't take a second to acknowledge his part in it all. With some time to digest my main observation was the tone and content of his end of season interview on AA.
He seemed pretty jaded and short on ideas. He kept referring to having to go back and teach this or that, which frankly was a bit U/10's I thought.
He also slayed the PG, implying they had a rep for being easy to play against.
Finally he had a fair bitch about how much help he needed and how much he had to do.
I thought it was a terrible interview and I recall posting at the time that he seemed willing to blame anything and anyone but himself for the season. He never once took responsibility.
To basically blame club and players in such a public way was pretty poor IMO and added to the many immature public moments he had.
I actually believe in our talent now. We had 4 AA squad members + danger, Walker, Sloane, Crouch - that nucleus is as good as any and must now be harnessed properly.
I have no issue with the actions at all
In what context? who to? how do you know?Senior players were VERY critical of him at the BnF
Reckon Roo has wanted Sando gone since he's gotten here. EOS player reviews and the "revolt" gave him the ammo to take it to the board and get it done. That is not what is being reported over here in Melbourne.

I guess we will find out how good in the presserChapman's been really good throughout this.
