The Zebs crushed the now solo Port Melbourne in the VFL season opener at TBO.

The final margin was 70 points (I think).

Bate was sensational, backing himself at every opportunity, winning a truckload of possessions and using the footy well.

Brown did his chances of a recall no harm, I think he even kicked 3 goals!

Jones started on the bench but was quite effective, especially in the last quarter when he seemed to get his hands on the footy at every stoppage.

PJ same old same old. Very good at this level but can he do it in the AFL?

Rivers - defintely will replace Ferg.

Nicho/Godders/Read: Servicable.

Buckley and Dunn showed glimpses but are a long way off senior footy.

Smith - Pffft.

Overall a very good team performance - unlike the Dees!

These would be my changes for next week:

Ins. Rivers, Bate, PJ
Out. Fergs, Yze, Jamar

But realistically the changes will probably be:

In. Rivers, PJ, Brown
Out. Fergs, Jamar, CJ

Mark Williams should be offered the coaching job at Melbourne. He can do with our duds, what Daniher can't do with our 'stars'.

Bate looks like a definate to play next week, really think he deserved a game from Round One to be honest. Rivers is also a certainty to play next week, we need him to patrol that defensive 50.

Apart from that, Brown will probably get a run - how did Motlop play, if he played at all? Would actually like Bizzell back in the side as well, give it some experience and some coolness under pressure, but it seems as though his body is not holding up like it used to.

And bloody Smith, this HAS to be his last year, although he deserves as much time as Michael Clark did. He was worse and got YEARS on our list.
