Round 23 2009:

Sunday 4th September
North v South - Prospect

• Forgotten man Nick Gill makes his return to league football and is named at FF for North. Phil Davis is named at FB, Tony 'clanger' Armstrong in the back pocket and Greg 'living on a prayer' Gallman at CHB. Rory Sloane is named as ruck rover. Myke Cook will line-up for South and should tear it up in a side that's in red hot form and is peaking at the right time of the year.

Norwood v Central - Norwood

• Taylor Walker is named in the forward pocket for the Redlegs and future AA defender Will Young at the other end of the ground in the back pocket. Aaron Kite meanwhile has injured a hamstring and will miss the game, perhaps his last game in South Australia? Jonathan Griffin will miss due to a thigh injury.

Port v Sturt - Alberton

• Tom Lee will be looking to build on a staggering game last week as he went on a tear and recorded a career best 11 possessions in the reserves.

• West v Glenelg - Richmond

Bye – Eagles

Henderson, Donnelly, Griffin, Kite all out injured this week so not many guys playing in the local league this week. Not sure which game is on ABC because all games were originally scheduled for Sunday.

Just thought it would be worth mentioning that Kris Massie is retiring after the game on Saturday. He's been playing for Norwood in the SANFL this season.

Massie is going to be evidence of the effect of an AFL training load vis a vis a SANFL training load.

When he was on the Crows squad and playing at the parade he used to regularly dominate games seemingly picking up possessions at will. However, back in the SANFL he's been servicable to good.

Well, that's bound to be exciting...

Nah it's an okay match but from a Crows perspective I was obviously hoping for North/South.

My interest in this game is if West can knock off Glenelg and give Centrals the minor premiership (if Centrals beat Norwood)

Bloods are a chance at home. Pushed Glenelg both times they have played them this year, and if we come out with the mentality the game is already over we'll be fronting up against Sturt next week. (Chalk that up for a win if it happens!:D)

That is pretty surprising considering he is no chance of playing for the Crows again this year. All that does is give Woodville a bit of assistance...
RL I think the reasoning is that the Crows have to be profressional about this and if there is a possibility that they need Jacky, albeit admittedly quite remote, say if they go all the way through to the GF and have injuries to all of their small forwards they need to ensure that he is developed and ready to go as best they can. This is only his second week back from a long term injury so to not play anywhere would be detrimental to his progress.

One more pre-season should just about do it ;)[/quote

agree, he will put some real pressure on Hentchel and Birdman, I still believe we have some tough list management decisions to make this year

im not sure if we can take 5 x 30 year olds into next season, we need to create scope for players like Sloane and Walker to develop

I'm so glad that Norwood beat Central. Was a great way to fairwell Kris Massie.

Taylor kicked his first two goals in the first and second quarters and then put through three in the third.

Will Young strangely spent a fair amount of the game on the bench, including most of the third quarter. He started off in defence and then played the second half of his game in the forward line.
