Hopefully some of you saw the doco on the SAS and their selection process last night on SBS. It was Part 1 of a two part series.

I've never seen such scary blokes. Their eyes burned holes in me and I wasn't the one sitting across the desk from them!

If we could have our playing group go through a similar process- especially in regard to their mental and psychological make up- the positives would have to be huge. We should put these guys in charge of our drafting.

The second part is on next Tuesday at 8.30pm. Well worth a look.

I remember seeing this the first time it was screened. There is some brutal psychological and physical punishment in their selection process to come.

There's a few of our blokes I wouldn't send on that camp. ;)

There's a few of our posters I wouldn't let watch the show. ;)

Wasn't REH going to arrange something for the PAFC with the SAS through a friend?

If I got to talk to the board along with Power Raid I was going to suggest it to them as a way of toughening up our blokes and bringing some real leadership. Power Raid has put his investment fund idea on hold, due to what was happening at the club re SANFL and AFL funding/control issues.

The security firm we will use once my project is up an running, are all ex SAS and military guys. That's why I made the suggestion that we should spend a week or a month in a presason season camp with SAS and I'd give them the introduction. I also suggested that we use either the SAS the US Navy SEALS, Mossad or the elite Russian forces. These elite forces break guys down then build them up to be the machines these forces want them to be.

The SAS is based just out of Perth and I think Freo spent a week with them in either 2006 or 2008.

Missed last nights show but will watch part 2 next week. Saw it when it was on previously and went out and bought a book on the SAS forces.

I think the term used was "re-training". The SAS commanders were focussed on the idea that many of the candidates, who were referred to by a number rather than name, came believing they were already physically fit. The re-training was designed to break them down to a level that could then be re-built.

One of the most interesting aspects I picked up was the ideal of neutral feedback. No positives and no negatives. Candidates had no idea whether they were performing a task well or poorly. The use of mis-information was also interesting.

I'd equate it to one of our players undertaking a 3km time trial in pre-season and after busting their butt and achieving their personal best, being told they ran it 30secs slower than they actually did and being told they 'd have to do it again in a couple of days time.

If we have the contacts to make this happen, it'd be the best 2-3 weeks I reckon our club could ever undertake for building a cohesive, united and mentally tough playing group.
