I would rather Brown play second tall than Schofield but one thing our list needs is a lightning quick small lock down defender.

not having a go at you in particular but where does this perception keep coming from? what small forward did he hold his own against last year? got close to breaking even against ballantyne perhaps? go back and have a look at rd 19 vs crows when he kept going to ground and couldn't stay within 10m of eddie betts.

it's a myth.
From memory - Held Breust to 1 goal when we played the Hawks

The back 6 i like are.
FB.. J Mcgovern E Mckenzie M Brown
HB.. B Shephard S Hurn X Ellis.
In this back 6 there are 3 key position players and 3 rebounders all 186 to 188cm tall. Ellis and Shephard can at times rotate in the midfield and wings with guys like Yeo, Wellingham and Bennell. We don't need Schofield because teams don't usually play 4 forwards over 195cm. I am not an expert on the AFL but one thing i think is happening with the modern game is that teams are looking to play as many players as they can from half forward/back who have the ability to play midfield as well.
Hurn isn't a CHB mate although I get the point you're trying to make with structures.

Yeah i didn't put the players where they would be on the field it was just a starting back 6. Mckenzie would be the CHB.

Height is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Lack of agility and ground level skill is a disadvantage. Schofield is not lacking in agility or skill below his knees. Brown is agile, but very iffy below his knees.

I'd have Bennell locked into the back pocket, Mackenzie as full back and Hurn on the flank. The rest are subject to match-ups and conditions, but probably something like:

Bennell Mackenzie Brown
Schofield Gov Hurn

With Yeo playing 7th defender and on the ball.

Waters and Shep to force their way into the side and Butler to provide depth.

No Glass, We need all defenders on deck

Pretty much the same as me except I'd have Ellis instead of Will.

Didn't he play on a small forward vs brisbane too? That ranga perhaps?

From the little we've seen of Brown vs a small, i don't think it's the worst idea ever. The biggest knock on Mitch IMO is his panicky nature and complete and utter lack of composure. Both of those things are found out when he's matched up on a key forward under a high ball, quite often he panics and gives away a free kick.

Against a small however, his speed an agility do him a favour and he obviously has an advantage in the air so he's not found out as much.

Just something i've noticed from the small amount we've seen. Calls like "he can play on both a tall and a small" are probably a bit premature though.

Schofield hasnt been a fb or chb to date so brown takes that role. Schofield has the potential and the size though he is 196. He is versatile though so has a spot for me and can join the ever growing hb mid hf rotations.

Brown the better defender IMO. Hands down. I don't rate Schofield that highly as a pure defender. Far more suited to a 3rd tall, high HF opponent with endurance than a body on body contest

Like has been mentioned in 2015 it depends on where the Gov plays. For me Gov plays CHF, Brown CHB, Schofield 3rd TD

Schofield is not a Key Position Player, he is closer to McGovern as a 3rd tall without the marking ability
Schofield needs to go another level to stay in the team.

Has it in him. Has all the physical attributes to be a weapon.

Have we ever tried him up as a HF/on the wing. His attacking game could really come to fore.

Schofield started as a half forward in his first few years from memory. Played a handful of games.

Yeah, we need to use him more as a big bodied runner.

If Simpson is keen on getting Darling into the midfield surely Schofield should be considered there at times as well. Purely for his size, acceleration and willingness to take the game on.

We simply need more players like Yeo, Schofield, Naitanui, Shuey who are willing to take the game on cut through the middle on different angles to run into space.

Would be interesting to see Schoey be given extended time on the wing, if it doesn't work out, no harm done.

Poor old Schoey taking a beating in the poll!

I too voted for Brown...a much more competent defender but nothing else in his bag of tricks.

Schofield has a lot of potential to add enormously to our rebound/transition. Unfortunately to date he has shown a propensity to bite off more than he can chew. If Simpson can get the team working better through half forward to centre Schofield could have a really good impact by doing a bit less but a lot more often rather than trying to go coast to coast. At this stage though that is a lot of maybe...

I can see Schofield being a tradeable player unless he raises his game or adds a new dimension to his game.

Shooter Turbo McLovin should be our CHF, forget the 3rd tall. Schoey will be competing with Beau Waters for that spot, and Beau will win eventually. As teh best contested mark on the team, STM will be a prime target to set things up I50 and straighten us up. Darling will be HFF and Lycett/Nicnat will rotate as FP and around the ground ruck or swinging back to be kick behind the play.

Schoey will never be a KPF, terrible, terrible defender.
