Was just reading an article on Collingwoodfc.com.au and the final part of the article was regarding "Scoring Involvements."

According to the article, Scoring Involvements are defined as: "When a player is involved in an unbroken passage of play which leads to a score."

Collingwood registered 156 scoring involvements on the night compared to Brisbane’s 91. The Magpie had 34 more than their season average of 122.

Dane Swan led the way with 14 (37% of the time involved in a score), Leon Davis and Paul Medhurst had 12 and Didak and Pendlebury finished with 11.

It is impressive to look at Swan’s numbers stacked up against the best in the league. Coleman leader Jonathan Brown is involved in a Brisbane score 36% of the time to lead the league. Lance Franklin is next best with 33% and Swan rounds out the top three with 32%.

Gary Ablett is involved in a Geelong score 26% of the time (third highest in his side).

Good find.

There's something called "Score Chains" as well, which counts how many times a player starts a chain that leads to a goal. Watson was killing it, with Pendlebury 2nd iirc.

Interesting stat indeed.

I think Swanny is just incredible. A lot of opposition supporters tend to think that he isn't damaging but the fact is he is involved with so many of our forward thrusts and scoring opportunities, he has an amazing capacity to get to the right place to set up play.

What a lot of people don't understand is just what a smart footballer Dane Swan is, when you watch him live you really get a sense of just how well he positions himself, the way he can provide support to his teammates in a number of positions and how he uses his deceptive speed and overhead marking to really hurt opposition sides.

Totally agree, He just knows where to go, to be in a position to get the footy, be it forward/back/midfield. He just works his backside off.
