bit rough on scotland - 2 years is warranted surely - i know he's old but no one would begrudge him of what he deserves...

just my opinion i spose but surely we should reward him...

Nup. Better to be a little conservative as opposed to a little optimistic. If he's still playing well at the end of next year and wants to go on, we'll give him another year. Giving him another year at this stage of the season is a big reward and shows our faith in him. From his quote, sounds like he's wrapped with the contract. :thumbsu:

Five years ago we would have, and it wouldn't have hurt to do it. Now our list managers are under a lot of pressure. Do they give a veteran another year, not knowing how he'll hold up, or do they punt on a kid they think has the talent to be the next Scotland.

Nova Scotia, if you will.

AFAIK TG, we are still not going to have any veterans next year (maybe Houlihan, but we can still choose not to have him as a vet).

Would it be that criminal to leave the boys on the RL for another year?

We can pay them as much as we like, granted it fits in the cap.

Why not give them a carrot financially and give them match bonus' but leave them as rookies with promises that they'll be elevated?
Agreed.

That way we can keep Mark Austin, Kerr and Marcus Davies on the list.

Joseph, Thornton and possibly Armfield might be up against it to keep their spots.

Good list management suggests that one or two of Austin, O'hAilpin and Thornton will stay to give our spine some depth. I wouldn't mind trading one for a late pick. I'm biased, but I'd rather keep the youngest of the three in Austin. MA has more footy smarts than O'hAilpin. Since Setanta was born in Sydney, perhaps we can trade him to the Giants to work over Folau in intra-club games. Thornton can go to the Giants as an out of contract player so they can't go near Lucas and Hampson.

Do we have to re-draft O'Keeffe and Casboult in the rookie draft if we want to keep them for another year?

We had to do that with Jacobs.

If they want to stay and we want to keep them, then the AFL really needs to scrap the rule that forces a club to re-draft a player.

Congratulations to both of the lads, Scotland has been superb. Carrazzo is interesting though, while he has been reasonable this year I don't really see him being in the best 22 in a years time.

Yeah I agree to an extent, not 100% on the 3 talls you mention but perhaps we should start a new thread instead of derailing this one, but just quickly;

Casboult has another year and O'Keeife has another two after this year as we have already delisted the latter and re-drafted him as a rookie.

It might be an idea to delist Casboult though as he currently has little currency to other clubs and if he gets through the ND (likely) we can pre-list him and take him with one of our last rookie picks ala Jacobs, Hill (:o) etc. instead of running the risk of him having a really good 2012 but us not having a spot on the list and running the gauntlet. I dunno though I'm an idiot...

I sure hope these guys get to taste ultimate success, because they've done it tough through the worst period in the club's history. They deserve to still be there at the other end of the tunnel.

Hopefully they impart their experience onto the younger players, too, highlighting what a rare opportunity it is to play in a good finals/top 4 side, and set the example of how to prepare on the track. These guys have felt the pain for a long time.
