Scott Gumbleton has come to the end of a fifth injury-riddled season and the Bombers' patience may be wearing thin. With Michael Hurley and Jake Carlilse developing up forward and ruckmen Patrick Ryder and David Hille alternating in attack, Gumbleton might find it hard to become a regular. He has one more year to go on his contract but if the right offer comes it could be beneficial for all parties.

He is 23 years old, at 197cm, 97kg, was the 2006 number 2 draft pick, has a lot of tallent but has suffered a lot injuries through his career which is a concern, if he can get over his injuries he could become a very good player. He has played 21 career games and kicked 21 goals.

Can he become the key forward we are missing? Would you want him at Melbourne? What would you give up for him?

Worth giving him a go. Is a very good mark. Traditionally we've had poor injury management though.

Wouldn't waste my time on him. 21 games in 5 years says it all.

To put him beside another injury prone player in Campbell. No thanks.
With Spencer to be added to the trio of ruckmen we already have, Campbell is no certainty to get another year.

Essendon would demand other teams pay over the odds for him. For a 2nd or 3rd rounder I'd do it but not otherwise. Essendon would probably want more.

Probably wouldn't get a game ahead of Fevola next year anyway. ;)

It's the freaking rookie list.

:o

Jesus, he wouldn't be taking up Jack Watts place.

He is always injured!!!!!!!! He ended this year with another injury as well. It would be a waste of a pick/trade. Give the opportunity to someone else to be on our rookie list.

Gumbleton has always been the player that could have ....

If we got him for next to nothing then sure. Late picks we weren't going to use, a player we don't see a future for, something like that. Essendon won't go for it but that's no big deal either.

I'd consider a rookie list spot for him. I think we're at a stage now were we can look at a few older bigger bodied players. If Gumbleton is delisted and all medical analysis says he'll be able to play, I think we take the chance.

That said, we need to draft well this year given the limited opportunity(seen to be a weak draft) before I'd go for it.

Melbourne need to take a risk for once and stop playing safe all the time. We need a big key forward and this guy could turn out to be a decent player. Someone like Dunn who could only manage 11 games in a poor season will be lucky to get a game in a couple years time, I would put him up for trade. We don't really need our first round draft pick either, we already have a million kids so why do we need to add more when it's such a weak draft? Especially if Scully leaves we can use those compo picks in next years super draft.

If Gumbleton Becomes a gun player for us it will be fantastic, if he doesn't losing Dunn and our first pick won't be a big loss.

yeah lets give a first rounder for an injury riddled player, PASS.:thumbsd:

When i said 'i hope youre joking' i wasnt just referring to Gumbleton's injury problems.

He's a borderline dud in my opinion. He can take a mark (but the overrated hype about his marking is overrated) but his kicking is shitful. Essendon know how to find them, Kepler Bradley all over again. Just with more injury problems.

Id rather Tom Hawkins, thats saying something.

He is signed on with Essendon until the end of next year and they wont trade him. They will then delist him if he can't string any games together and therefore he wont be able to be on the rookie list.

The guy is a spud, you wouldn't trade him for a Cale Morton Tazo yet you want to trade him for a first round pick. :o

^^^^ This..

Can't believe that people would be against giving him a rookie spot should the chance come up (which it won't). Do you think we owe the likes of Cameron Johnstone anything, they'll be gone this year.
