hey weagles

Scott Lucas is out of contract and i reckon he would be the answer for WCE. i know he might come at a price and/or some hefty trades but he would definitely solidify our forward line at Centre Half Forward, and we all saw his recent prowess at Centre Half Back......

I would rather that Karl Langdon makes a come back.

Lucas has talent but is a sook. Have watched him play a bit and he is just lucky he had Barnard and Solomon playing around him.

Jacobs - yes

Lucas - maybe, depending on price & who we have to give up.

Okay, lets pick up Thompson, Hay, Rawlings, Brown, Barker and Lucas next year, in a package deal for Cox, Chambers, Judd, Fletcher, Kerr and Wirrpunda. Interesting looking team we'll have next year- good spine, pity about the midfield.

Lucas certainly is no slouch- he has a nasty habit of being a gamebreaker in important matches. His age is a worry though.

However, in the more realistic league of out of contract trades, Jacobs and Mark Johnson both interest me intensely.
Both are under or on 25, both are wonderfully solid defenders- Jacobs is capable of holding down FB or CHB if necessary, or functioning as a third tall- plays much taller than he actually is. Mark Johnson might be an even better pick up- for quite some time, we've been crying out for a tight playing, tenacious small defender to sit in the pocket opposite Wirra, and give him the latitude to run off his man. Johnson fits that bill beautifully.

Really, though, the best reason for looking at those Bombers is I get the feeling they are a lot more gettable than many other players around, simply because of what happened last year- the bombers got rid of some pretty decent sorts for little or nothing thanks to their salary cap situation- if the same thing happens again this time around...

karl langdon??!! (isn't he that bloke on those carpet ads??!!)

at least Lucas presents himself in the forward line and keeps going hard at the ball.....which is more than can be said for Wilson, Cox, Jakovich and anyone else that's played up at CHF this year

i know Lucas is a bit of a sook but he's not nearly as bad as Richo

The best thing that would happen if we got Lucas was, at least he wouldn't carve us up every time we played Essendon.

Scotty Lucas would be better than Richo!

Wilson's been delisted, Hansen's going 'over East', Mc Dougall, Lynch, Seaby and Gaspar have yet to set the AFL world on fire. To borrow a phrase from the cricket world, Scotty's 'got the runs on the board'. I reckon it's worth a punt!

I reckon Scott Lucas would be huge upgrade for us a Centre half back. Admittedly he'd come at a price but I could handle him running it out of defense for us in 2004. (Would love to see that booming left foot heading our way for a change).

If you saw the Port-Essendon game on Saturday Lucas and Jacobs could not be compared. I know you've got to be careful basing opinions on one game but they were like chalk and cheese. Jacobs was weak as whereas Lucas was highest / second highest possession winner. Jacobs has age on his side but not much else.

I'm sticking my neck out here and saying I love Scott Lucas's versatility at the Eagles in '04.

Not for me.

He's had a great year and was good last year, but he's getting on. He is in the best form of his career so I would expect we will be paying his peak price. I don't think he'll be able to retain this form for another 3 years. I don't like the idea of recruiting any player over 25 unless they are an out and out star.

Jacobs or Hay please.

He's not the messiah ...

..but he is a very good footballer.
Having said that, it depends how much Essendon want in return. How old is he?? I thought he started at the same time as Lloydy.

And just a point zipperchan.. less of the "weagles" please. Personally,I can't stand that nickname.

Scott Lucas is a good footballer but not our man. If we were looking to Essendon, I think Danny Jacobs would be the best man for us, and there were a few guys on this board talking about him a couple of months back.......

:p

might seem a bit odd that there are a quite a lot of calls to look for a tall option, and its not as if I'm excatly an anti-trade trade man, but you must think that we are in a position where we could weaken our midfield to strengthen another area of the ground which could do with a bit more solidarity - especially defence.

We have some very talented tall guys coming through, but if we could get someone with a bit more certainty about them, we would be a strong position IMO.....

McDougall at CHF defeintaly looks to be a great option in the future, while Staker playing across the Half Forward and occasionally in defence in the Mithcell White type role.... Travis Gaspar looks to be a good player, and most probalby for us at CHB, but unfortunately is very injury prone, while Darren Glass is improving but won't be anything more than an reliable FB.

at FF we don't exactly have much, but Haynes has been playing OK there, but very patchy and probably not the long term option.

We have talented talls, but little delivery as of yet, so I do feel we could benefit by weakining our midfield to get some more solidarity around the ground.

Good teams these days don't win by having a super strong midfield and nothing else around the ground. You've gotta have a team which is well balanced from forward line to back line to interchange bench, and ATM 75% of our talent is in the midfield.......

Only way to develop good quality KP's is to give them games, yes, we have young talls who haven't set the world on fire, but all good KP's start with getting games and experience first. They're not going to elarn anything from Glen Jakovich playing in a spot they're suppose to be playing in. And remember Jako was a contingency for Gaspar.

Everyone needs to pray everynight for Gaspar's soft tissues and injuries
