What has Hawthorn got to do with it?Pendlebury - consummate pro.
Not saying trading him is the right call however its academic coz the club would never even entertain it. They don't think nor behave like a Hawthorn. It would never enter their minds and of course the supporters would scream blue murder.

Doubt it.Think his still a gun but doing some weird things this year ..
Worried the end will come.quick..
Maybe his last season ?
Think Gimp should stick to betting instead of talking about trading Pendlebury.
At least you didn't post a slice of sunblest. Not my greatest moment on here.. considering the symbolism attached to Pendlebury.. and the fact we had the heart and soul ripped out of the club last yr..
From my experience playing sport at a pretty high level.. I can say that.. the whole concept of a 'mentor' is a tad overrated.. it's a bit 'afl 360'.. 'watching too many Hollywood movies'.. like for me. I never really did go to training and have a bloke mentor me.. hit the gym in beast mode.. prepare my meals.. run laps.. drills.. skills.. ask Pendlebury? Make a v-line for him? There's coaching staff.. physios.. fitness trainers.. dietitians.. the playing group as a whole.. if I wanted advice it wasn't all directed at one bloke.. once you're in a club.. it's not all hail the great man. I've never seen it work that way to be honest.
Another thing.. the bloke is not early 30s. The bloke is 33.. closer to approaching mid 30s.. he's not 23.. we are not going to win a premiership any time soon.. how many yrs has he got left.. 1 or 2.. I'd be more inclined in preparing his spot for the next bloke who is brave enough to put his hand up if he wants it. People want to talk about WHE.. JT.. put them on the trade table before Pendlebury.. whether we do or don't.. mate they play in entirely different positions all together.. regardless of whether we do or don't doesn't have much to do with Pendlebury.
Being called a troll.. when I haven't said a bad word about the bloke for 6 yrs.. including now.. that's just a piss poor effort.
At least you didn't post a slice of sunblest.
It’s difficult to soccer with AFL in my opinion.
Not just because of the amount of players in each team or squad, but even how the managers/coaches coach on game day.
In soccer the managers are close to the players on pitch level. AFL they are coaching in the stands and even when they do come down, the ground is too big to effectively bark out orders.
Having a legend of the game actually on the pitch who can direct kids where to stand or run to during the game is invaluable for a kid who has just come into the seniors.
Bigger grounds, more spaces and so more tactical permutations. It’s little wonder the coaches didn’t like the limited use of runners rule when it was brought in. Particularly those coaches with very young sides.
If we had more leaders on the field, it wouldn’t be as necessary. Or if the kids already had 20-30 games to their name.
Apologies. You seem to have it all covered. So because the ground is too big.. Bucks can't bark out orders when he's sitting on the pine.. limited use of runners rule = we need experience on the pitch.
Okay.
Thanks for that.
Apologies. You seem to have it all covered.
He can still play well.. in the Hodge Lewis Isaac Smith mould I would consider trading him.. think there's still enough value there for us to get something decent in return.
I’m in seat 1A of moving guys that won’t be there for the next premiership run if the return is palatable. The thing is they need to have value which Pendles doesn’t he’s also a FA so discussing a future with him at another club is a pointless exercise.
FWIW I think Hawthorn failed miserably in the transition from their old guard to the new. Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Smith and Roughy to Wingard, O’Meara, Scully and Patton could not have gone worse if they planned it that way! The big concern I have is that the man in the passenger seat is now in the same role with us...
Is he our best midfielder.. yes. Is he the player he once was.. no. Should he be the main man in the engine room.. no. Is that a problem.. yes. Does he need to occupy another position on the pitch.. yes.. do we need to go on the hunt for a 20 22 25 yr old to replace him.. yes. Is there anyone at the club that wants to take the Mickey out of him.. nutmeg him.. at training.. I'm hoping there is.
The bloke is turning 34 next yr.. champion or no champion.. we're all just a number in the end.. whatever is best for the team moving forward.
I agree with you, but I’m confused about how this is relevant to my post? Yep a shake up is in order and someone in the 22-25 age bracket stepping in to fill the breach is required, but trading Pendles, ignoring that it isn’t possible anyway, doesn’t address that.
I would also argue he hasn’t been our best mid since 2017 with Steele placing in a Brownlow and Adams winning an AA selection in that period, but I acknowledge that’s debatable.
I tend to just add or subtract to other people's posts re.. I love listening to the sound of my own voice more or less and that re.. but yeah.. should not have posted yeah.. he is our best.. probably.. more like it.
At the end of the day re.. we need to find our next champion.
Thought as much and that’s why I love your work! I mainly wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed something.
Pendlebury was AA is 2019 and AFLPA Captain of the Year in 2020.I agree with you, but I’m confused about how this is relevant to my post?
