Player Watch Scott Pendlebury

Pendles is probably my favourite player ever, but even I was getting a bit worried. But he rolled back the clock tonight. He’s still got it.

Whats the point of Pendles being in the square and getting exposed because it got a to point where they were abusing him on the spread. It wasn't a great look for him and that not this fault.

If the mids are going to get burnt anyway get the young guys in there and let them learn at least there is something gained from it.
He went alright tonight didn’t he?

I heard him interviewed before and gosh he knows the game well and he said he has not made a decision about next year yet. He reckons Sam Darcy will be 1 of the best ever because he has never seen anything like him and he also remarked how difficult Liberatore is to play on.

I remember all of one week ago when some "experts" here wrote the great man off.
There should have been a register kept of all the Toilet Paper Panic Buyers who have written off Steele and Pendles over the years.

If they keep it up, they'll be right eventually. That's something to hang onto.

It was silly and premature. His understanding of the game and ability to lift when the pressure is on (as we saw yet again against Footscray) is immense.

I liked him standing essentially a half kick behind the play at general stoppages. I think it softens his biggest weakness (leg speed) and allows him to do what he does best. He also lined up in the forward line at least once on Friday, sort of like the flip of how Dusty used to push forward after centre stoppages. An interesting tactic that I think works well in rotation with De Goey. There's juice in those ancient legs yet

Problem is we have added another slowie in Sullivan. Never thought it would be possible to get a slower team than last week. Pendles incidentally just happens to be the biggest slow coach of all which is not a criticism because he always had been but it seems that as age has caught up with him his opposition finds it much easier to leave him behind in a nanosecond. That means that we are getting pumped at centre square tussles.
Bump

Only the truely clueless wrote this bloke off. He’s our goat.
Spot on.
Another superb performance, hope he plays on next year.

He says he doesn’t listen to the media but everytime a murmur arises that he’s past it he produces this. The undisputed Pies GOAT and the day he calls it quits will be devastating.
Luckily that is still a few years away. 🙏😂

unlike others at a similar age who were absolutely cooked at his age he actually still has a lot to give other than being picked on reputation (cough cough Buddy 350)
If you listen to his podcast on the Howie Games you’ll see why he’s still elite. The best preparer the game has seen.

Interesting post-match discussion with Roos and McLachlan where McLachlan said he did a 'sit down' with Leppitch and JL said that Pedlebury was the smartest footballer he'd ever encountered. He said that Pendles would regularly come to the bench and let the coaching staff know what was happening out on the field that none of them had picked up on even though they had 'eyes' eveywhere. Leppa said it really was like having an on-filed coach out there.

Pendles adds so much more value to the team than his (still A-Grade) playing stats. He can go around again next year, easily.

I can understand it from his perspective but it’s a little sad that Pendles has already said that he’d go to another club to learn the ropes of coaching.

Hopefully it’s all to our benefit long term and he coaches the club post Fly in 5 years or so if he proves/confirms that he’s good enough for it. How amazing would that be for him to continue to write his Collingwood legacy.
