Finally got some regular game time in the Crows this season and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do next year. Would like to see him bulk up a fair bit in the pre-season and hopefully he'll turn into another good story like Bock.

Why is he so tiny?? Lazy in the gym (like fergie watts) or is it just his body type?
I think its just his body shape. This dude could eat a whole pig off the spit in one go and still not gain weight.

Players like that can be frustraing for the fans but Stevo works really hard to put on mass but its difficult with his body shape and metabolism. He is abit like Ryan Fitzgerald and Daniel Schell in that no matter what he does he just can't bulk up.

I recall Paul Roos saying that is the only reason he traded him. He thought that Stevo is a good player but just doesn't have the body to be a KPP at AFL level.

Weight is one thing, strength is another thing entirely. Ben Hart never put on any weight, but was still strong for his build. No doubt Steveo could do with building up a bit further, but his true 'strength' is his ability to run/create & use of the ball, rather than 1 on 1 contests.

i agree. if you can think back a few years to Peter Caven, he wasnt exceptionally bulky either, granted he wasnt a stick like Stevens, but he did play the role of a jump in at the last second type player rather than the wrestle my opponent to the ground role.

I was disappointed with his effort against Hanson in the prelim. His efforts in 1 on 1 contests is still poor. Bock was no world beater in this area either, but something about stevens doesnt fit right. I think our better defenders make him look better than he is.

I was pretty dissapointed with his game on hansen aswell. Was continually beaten to the ball and couldnt compete strength wise in marking contest. I accept his strength is his run, and skills by foot but if you are going to concede the contest, then he really does hae to hurt the opposition by getting posessions and providing rebound which he didnt against WCE.
Not saying get rid of him or anything like that, he just had a bad game and wasnt alone, but it his lack of strength is a concern.
Hopefully the AFC can work a program out for him.

You do realise Hansen has a better aerobic capacity the many of our midfielders? Ran second for beep test in his draft camp year - incidentally including Judd etc.

Fair enough, but does that mean we just sit back and say 'oh well Hansen is fitter so its ok Stevo got towelled'?
The main point was strength issue anyway, and the fact that he didnt hurt the eagles the other way. But like i said, im taking it as one bad game, was just dissapointed in his game that day is all.

Stevens is a hack with the Magpies. Their forward line consists of Stevens and Waterhouse. Awesome.

Oh, as well as leaving Stevens with the Magpies, you can leave Ivan Maric with Port Adelaide too.

Cheers! :D

I dont agree with that unless the Crows leave Hudson with North!

Maric has impressed me almost every game hes played against us.

Well, you can either leave him with the Port Magpies, or the Crows can trade him to the Power. I'd prefer the latter option.

From my memory of the game (believe me, i am trying to forget it), I thought Stevens was beaten primarily on the lead. It's no excuse, but almost all Hansen's leads were honoured with pinpoint passes to his chest at full flight...hard for any defender to stop. Yep, he got beaten, but it wasn't his deficiency of strength that caused it IMHO.

Would have to look at all the replays, but i really don't think his lack of size hurt the team in real terms too often during the season. He really didnt get outmarked 1 on 1 much more than our other key defenders, it's just that when he does, it can look a tad embarrassing because of his pencil-thin physique.

In saying that, the potential is always there, and i would shudder if he lined up on a big forward (Brown, Lynch type).

Yeah, that's the reason I bought Hansens aerobic ability up - He towelled Stevo on the lead, not in a one-on-one.

AS many have said, Stevo just seems to have that build where it's incredibly hard to put weight on.

a dominant midfield will always make oposition backs trying to cover leading forwards look like chumps......;)

His trade value will never be higher than it is right now. I wonder what he might bring in return?

The reality is he isnt better than Bock, Hentschell, Perrie or McGregor. He isnt in my best 22. I dont think he will ever be better than average. Do you?? Really?
