I rate scotty thompson's season so far as very good.has been in the best in most of adelaide's wins, and in close games such as the freo 1 point loss and the close geelong loss.He is averaging around 25 disposals per game(5 more than last year),tackles well and kicks a lot of goals for a midfielder.
He stands out in the crows team.with adelaide set for a big second half of the season i expect thompson to be prominent for the crows.I feel he is a real smokey for the brownlow, top 3 finish and to be adelaide's top brownlow votes getter.Currents odds of 101 and 26

your thoughts on his chances?

The only thing is that he is not much of a vote getter. In his first season with us he got noticed a fair bit because he mainly played accross HF, got some reall good touched and kicked quite a few goals (30 odd in the season IIRC).

Since he has moved into the midfield, he hasn't been polling all that well IMHO. Then again, he has never been consistently good as he has this year.

The umpires seem to absolutely hate him (giving away 18 free kicks this season, many of them absolutely ridiculously harsh decisions, compared to only 7 earned), and he's never polled particularly well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dissapointment of Goodwin proportions when it comes to brownlow votes. Still, he'd certainly deserve a high placing with the season he's had so far - Our best player for my money.

Guys like Scott don't win brownlows. Not flashy enough.

It's a crap award anyway.

AFLPA MVP > some shitty umpire award.

I thought the same thing about Edwards until a couple of years back when he polled unbelievably fo a previous poor vote getter

Thompson should be top-10 at the moment - will be interesting on Brownlow night whether he is. What other proven vote getter would be taking votes from him?

I think McLeod would have certainly taken votes for him. Mattner on a few occasions and don't discount Knights either. He gets a lot of the ball and at times does carry it so he is sure to catch an eye of an umpire here and there.

Yeah I agree, I think McLeod is our best chance if he can come home strong.

I think thompson, like Goodwin will not get many votes, as I believe they tend to chat back to the men in blue, green, red and yellow

I put my house on the fact that Thommo won't win it. Wait a minute, I sold that ;). I put my Crows footy on it. :o. I think he will poll well but players from our side will take votes from each other.

Depends which way the umpires swing, Thompson being a gay icon and all.
Thompsons strong marks and clearances where he leaves everyone standing still seem pretty flashy to me.
Welsh I think could get the coleman the way the season is going.

Already a thread on this and the award as it stands is assessed in a poor manner
Coach's award is the superior award and really the others can't contend with it no matter how much they revise.

i dont think ricciuto was ever considered flashy, infact thompson plays a very similar style to the way ricciuto plays

Roo had (still has...) some of the best long field kicking in the game. As well as the hard as nails inside stuff he was always fantastic as a receiver to deliver into the forward line. We saw a couple of examples of that at this weekends game. I think he does have that 'flashiness' edge over what Thompson offers (don't get me wrong I think Scotty is doing amazingly well but he reminds me more of a Bickley type than a Roo type).

The umpires seem to love Mattner. He polled the most vote of the Crows players last year..unless that was Edwards...well one year he did ;)

If Goodwin couldnt go close last year, then we wont have another brownlow winner for about 20 years.

Maybe im just sour that i had money on goodwin @51-1 in round 4 last year...

Yet Edwards got close when we didn't expect it.

The way umpires favour certain players over others who they ignore for some reason when voting is not club specific.

If mattner has good season at some stage he could be a smokey to place one year. Always polls well unexpectedly

You're right, might have a flutter next year if it looks as though he's going to be released onto the wing, or at least be given a creative role.

Write your own ticket on Thompson Kane but I reckon McLeod is in with a big chance.

See you at the pub
