The move to North had a real negative impact on his development, I have no doubt if he'd stayed he'd be a much better player today.

Pass, unfortunately.
Unfortunately you pass hot air on this one.
Just watch the last 6 NM games, and you'll see an excellent attacking Scarlett type defender, who has played well on several KF's. I watch NM every week.

Great. How does that impact my hypothetical? Did I say he was bad? I said he would've been better if he'd stayed. But thanks for the insight into your AFL viewing schedule.

As reposte's go, one of the best Roadie. Succinct, hit the mark and done with a nice touch of humour. Loved it!:thumbsu::D

No, you say PASS, as if he has n't progressed since being at NM, while the reality is, he has become a very valuable player in a very good team, and if he'd stayed, would he have developed this way? In all likelihood not.

I thought Geelong's policy was not to recruit sniping ****wits......

OK...maybe thats a bit rough.....anyway....

You might gather I am not a fan.
spoken like someone with a very limited viewing of his performances. If by some remote chance he did come our way, you would no doubt be singing his praises

How did it have a negative impact on his development? If anything I think it fast-tracked his development as he got the opportunity to cement a place in their backline early on that he wouldn't have got here.

Anyway, Brad Scott likes him. He'll re-sign with North.

You're correct, he won't leave North. No point in leaving a team where you've cemented a spot to go to one where you'd battle for one.

I was disappointed we couldn't hang on to him. The move has worked for him though.

If there's money under the cap after all the players who have been loyal and signed for less money than they could have received during our glory years, plus the next generation have re-signed, then and only then should we look at him.

Nothing against Scott Thompson, but I think it is absolutely vital that we look after the players who did the right thing by us when they signed contracts between 2007-2010. That should be the priority.

So we forego the chance for future success by living in the past? Dont get me wrong, i am very thankful for the players for what they have done. But i also want more success and that takes sacrifices, as Collingwood are showing.

Look at the big picture here. What happens if we do that and then if the next generation becomes a premiership group, so we ask them to make similar sacrifices when it comes time to keep that group together?

"Oh, you're going to look after me, are you? Yeah, like you did with Boris, Kel, Smithy etc...etc..." (just using random examples).

The club not looking after the players who looked after them is not an option. You do stuff like that and your name is mud with future free agents and their managers, as well as your current players, anyway. Look after the legends and future players know they can count on the Geelong cheque-writers to do right by them, if and when their time to earn it comes.

Collingwood will be in the same position in 2-3 years. They're still in the honeymoon period (2008ish for a comparison with us). If promises are made, promises must be kept. It's not negotiable.

And CS is coach, and has had no part in our past, so hopefully HE makes the correct decisions based on merit, not emotion/past history etc.
