The last thing I ever want to do is envy what Richmond has.

Especially this year.

They seemed on the right track but it's gone backwards sharply. The recruitment of multiple mature-age duds has been vindicating, not necessarily Hardwick's fault but he will be accountable for it.

Someone suggested taking the exact same trading/recruitment route Richmond has recently. I wouldn't dare.

Agree. They must have thought they were ready for a premiership tilt and topped up.

Hampson for a second rounder and multiple year salary on the surface is the biggest mistake I can remember.

Scott v Hardwick........

And next week we look at Gary Ablett V Brock McLean.......... Pleeeeeaaasssseeee !!!!!

100 games at the same time as a coach was the reason for the comparison.

I agree Scott has done better.

Hardwick has been hurt by the unrealistic expectations heaped upon Richmond. The idea that Richmond were to be a top four side this year was always ridiculous, a triumph of emotion over reason; of desire over intelligence.

If you look at what Scott has overall achieved in his time, you cannot compare the two.

As tacticians? That I'm not sure of.

But if you asked the other 16 coaches which job they would take of the 2, 16 would say North.

Scott has built that.

On field you can. They have both coached one final in five years and lost it.

Off field I agree you give the points to Brad, but that's just as much down to Brawshaw, Dilena, Arocca etc, and a coach's main KPIs are still on the field.

So difficult to choose between these two. FWIW I think we have a far superior list to Richmond's, which I think has been totally overrated for years by the media and public. Their top end talent is good, however the clubs inability to secure decent players after their 1st round pick has set the club way behind us IMO.

But Brad has been the key driver in overall high performance.

The club have been very much on the same page, I do agree.

Richmond with all their failed top up players and poor recruiting are in a far worse position now and look like sliding.

Brad hasn't taken any short cuts and the club has taken a very long term view with him.

As fun as it is to watch Richmond train-wreck their football department, sacking Hardwick will set them back another 5-years.

They must stick fat with him for now.

It'll take the poor bastard 10 years to de-Richmond Richmond. I reckon he's alright. Until one team makes the jump, they are on a par.

Yeah, probably a fair comment.

Splitting hairs to a degree on what has happened so far. But I think they're backwards step this year was not only unexpected, but could be quite damaging to his chances going forward.

We've been all over the place this year, but appear to still be on an upward curve so for mine that put Scott a nose in front.

Good post also. I think last year they might have overachieved as I still didn't see their list as being all that great - and it's gone backwards.

As ^^ I still fail to understand their drafting strategy, can only assume they thought they were much closer than they are (bit like Carltank).

He's not employed as a footy or list manager though. And what is "overall high performance"? We've played in and won exactly the same amount of finals as Richmond under Hardwick.
