Neil Kerley was on the radio this afternoon and used the word "spineless", what does everyone reckon?

Too Harsh, didn't have the best of games but is still far too harsh.

I dont think he was only talking about yesterday. Also this does not refer to his footballing ability (most people would recognise he is a very talented footballer) but more to do with how much effort he puts in.

Ditto for me.

Was good early & had the better of Glass, but was shutdown by Brett Jones.

That Brett Jones is a big bastard to, i thought he was about the height he was , but hes pretty bloody solid.

Is he Spinesless ?

Well he has one, is he meant to have more?

Too harsh a call.

Scott was one of our better chasers and tacklers last year and one of our better forwards.

He did not have a good pre-season and he only played the last part of the year.

His form this year was fair but nowhere near the level of 2005.

Lets see what he can deliver with a decent rest then preseason.

One thing I would like him to do better is stand the mark with more intensity. he is too busy having a go at the umpire and allowing the player with the ball to run away and set up players downfield. Last year he was much better at guarding the mark

I think Welshy has a great pre-season but the problem is he got shin fractures in early february and it took him a very long time to recover from those and that followed by calf injuries.

When healthy, Welsh is EASILY in our best 18 and along with Burton our most dangerous forward.

Very harsh, to me someone who is spineless is the guy who is not prepared to work when he doesnt have the ball.

Scott Welsh is not this at all, he works his arse off and his defensive pressure along with Bodey's is outstanding.

Very harsh call by Kerley.

Serious questions need to be asked about Welsh's preperation in particular going into pre-season last year. To his credit he fought back well.

At his best he is in our best 18 but he just does not get on the park enough and a fair bit of that is not through bad luck either.

As with previous years you can't go into the year expecting to have Welsh for the full season. If you get 12 - 15 games out of him then you have done well.

I wouldn't have used the word spineless for Welsh's performance, but it certainly lacked the characteristics that will win you finals games.

Down the northern end where I could see him up close and peraonal, I was very disappointeed with his total lack of 2nd and 3rd efforts, and the way that he constantly went to ground rather than stay on his feet and provide a further contest.

IMO his performance was not related to fitness, but more so to attitude, and we will never win a final when one of our key forwards puts in a poor effort such as that.

I think that's where Kerls was coming from - not questioning his courage, but rather his commitment.

In that context, I have no problem with Kerl's comments at all. I wouldn't think Neil Craig would either.

I wouldnt use the word "spineless" either but unfotrunately i think I agree with everything you've said here. His commitment leaves much to be desired too often, he is very talented but IMO does not work hard enough, compare his 2nd/3rd efforts to Bode, Proplyzia, Shirley, VB, ...

The news that Hart is likely to play on and the club and him have come to an agreement really puts pressure on someone like Welsh. No doubt they are going to target a couple of 30+ year olds and with Clarke gone I suspect they might look at one more. He is the most likely ahead of players like Roo, Macca, Edwards, Torney, Bigglands ect.

His position would be in serious doubt at the moment.
