Make me a Tiger or I’ll take punt on pre-season draft.

Fremantle key-position player Graham Polak is prepared to run the gauntlet of the pre-season draft if a trade deal with Richmond can’t be completed by tomorrow’s deadline.
Last night talks between the Dockers and Tigers had stalled and Polak’s manager, Paul Connors, indicated to the port club that his out-of-contract client was willing to risk going into the pre-season draft pool, where Carlton and Essendon have the first two selections.

The Polak twist came on a day Fremantle pulled out the big guns in their desperate bid to snare Chris Tarrant, flying coach Chris Connolly to Melbourne to personally pitch his case to the Collingwood forward.
Connolly, assistant coach Mark Harvey and Fremantle CEO Cameron Schwab met Tarrant, who is also managed by Connors.

- Get a trade for this di*head and get rid of him. I was hoping he would stay in the past few weeks but now with this attitude we should take the best we can gety and pi** him off. Good luck next year wan*er, hope you do a knee.

It is a disappointing attitude. Fair enough if he had nominated a few clubs that he was keen to go to who were also interested in him, but it seems like it is only richmond. Hopefully the new saints coach is interested in Polak, and Polak is willing to go there so we can have 2 clubs vying for his services.

If they won't do Polak + pick 13 for 8 and 26 we should atleast go after an exchange of 1st and 2nd round picks and their pick 42.

It looks like Tarrant doesn't want to play for us, which is fine. Essendons asking price for Solomon is also a joke, a first round pick is what they are after!!!!!!

Swap Polak and picks 13 and 31 for picks 8, 26 and 42. Trade Medhurst for pick 25. Then have picks 8, 25, 26, 42 and 47 in the draft, or use one of those picks on McGrath or Hadley.

why would he want to go to richmond.. could you imagine listening to mighty mouse before every game?

don't leave Polly.

Straight swap for Tuck, just get it over and done with. We've got plenty of cover if we lose a tall - remember Haddrill and Thornton barely played this season due to injury.

Didn't someone (kenny?) say Tuck was off the table now?

.... Fremantle has its own issues should it need to satisfy the Magpies. Last night a deal to send Graham Polak to Richmond had also stalled and his manager, Paul Connors, also Tarrant's agent, was indicating to Fremantle that the 22-year-old was willing to run the gauntlet of the pre-season draft where Carlton and Essendon have the first two selections.

Richmond has offered an exchange of first-round picks with Fremantle for Polak — pick eight for pick 13 — but the Dockers are insisting on a second-round pick to be included. Shane Tuck, who had been linked to the Polak deal on Tuesday, was taken off the table yesterday....

Shame, I would have been happy to swap Polak for Tuck. Now if the deal went ahead the way Richmond wants it, we're effectively getting nothing apart from moving up a few places with our first round pick. And if we still go for Tarrant, that pick will end up at the Pies. Even if we get that second rounder out of Richmond, the deal still blows but at least we get something out of it.

Lets remember that the wheeling and dealing is done by the players manager. These guy's are as close as you can get to a retired footy dodgy car salesman. Remember they get a % of the take so the better the outcome for the player the better they are. The players would give them licence to do the best deal possible but the way this game is played is out of the players hands.

I'm not trying to troll here, but was Richmond really going to give you guys Tuck for Polak, straight swap? I mean that would be absolutely idiotic. A guy who is in our top 5 players for someone who can't get a game in your side? Granted, Polak would make our 22 (only out of lack of other options) but we're not that far behind you guys that he'd be in our top 5 like tucky is! Surely we would have been offering something like Tuck for Polak and your 2nd round?

If we did offer it, and you guys rejected it, what were you thinking!!!

I doubt it was a straight swap wrt Tuck, there would have been a piece of action coming back your way, but I would say that Polak will be your third best tall, behind Richo and Snake.

At this current stage on form alone, polak would probably also be behind schulz, maybe pattison aswell. However, hes an unknown, he could be a superstar if he gets his head right. I think if we get him off you guys for an 8th to 13th downgrade + a second round downgrade it'd be well worth the gamble. I'm pretty sure we have somebody lined up for our first round that we'd take at 8 but could fall to 13th.

Polak trade threat

The Dockers were tight-lipped about the tenor of their meeting with Tarrant. But it is understood he did not give an indication he is prepared to join them.

Last night West Coast remained his strong preference, despite the apparent lack of progress on a deal between the Eagles and Collingwood.

Polak holds the key to the Dockers snaring Tarrant. Richmond have offered an exchange of first-round picks with Fremantle for Polak — pick eight for pick 13 — but the Dockers are insisting on a secondround pick to be included.

The Tigers’ offer of rugged midfielder Shane Tuck, who had been linked with the Polak deal on Tuesday, was taken away yesterday.

Polak wants a three-year deal worth more than $800,000. Richmond assistant coach Brian Royal flew to Perth yesterday to talk to him.

The Tigers could find fresh competition today after St Kilda emerged as a wild-card in the hunt for Polak following the appointment of former Sydney assistant Ross Lyon as their new coach.

Geelong’s interest in out-of-favour Fremantle forward Paul Medhurst has cooled. Essendon defender Dean Solomon has started to explore his options in the pre-season draft, with a deal with Fremantle unlikely to proceed. The Dons continue to ask for either a first-round selection or a swap of Solomon and pick 20 for young Docker Marcus Drum.

The stalemate between Hawthorn and Sydney over ruckman Peter Everitt continues, with the Hawks knocking back pick 33 for him.

“A ruckman they (Sydney) are prepared to pay as much as $400,000 a season for two years is, in our opinion, worth more than a late secondround pick,” Hawks general manager of personnel Chris Pelchen said.

There was some movement yesterday though, with St Kilda giving up their fourth-round pick, selection 59, to the Western Bulldogs for 23-year-old midfielder Shane Birss, who played 51 games with the Bulldogs in six seasons.

Brisbane spearhead Daniel Bradshaw, who was heavily courted by Geelong, yesterday agreed to a threeyear deal with the Lions.

Settle down Wizard. Wait until the end of trade week and see what actually happens.

In trade week beleive nothing that you hear or read and only half of what you see. ;)

Too true, last week they said he was leaning to stay with freo.Players that want to move have usually told the club trade or draft either way I'm going before the trade week.

Polak will play more games than pick 13.
Quote me on that one.
I see a lot of similarities between Polak and L Brown.
L Brown might not have set the world on light at North, but he has managed to play close to 100 games for them.

That's a good point. I wonder if richmond tell a player that they plan to recruit to inform their club that they will probably stay, then inform them they want to leave during trade week meaning a deal has to be rushed through. Simmonds did the same thing, he was probably staying and a few media outlets announced on the Tuesday of trade week he would re-sign the next day, but it was announced on Wednesday that he was leaving. Maybe they are still angry about having to pay Gaspar $500,000pa after we tried to poach him 5 or 6 years ago.
