Sean Rusling

All the fights here regarding Rusling are irrelevant to what is going to happen. If Rusling is fit and has a string of games under his belt, he will be in the 22. Mick Malthouse and the selection committee decide who plays and Malthouse wants Rusling in the 22.
I recall James Clement saying that he is impossible to play on because of his turn of speed. You do not know which way he will move.
It is just a shame the poor guy has had so many injuries.
You never know, he might have kicked 100 in a season or he might have been delisted already. :D
All I know is that he has a lot of talent as witnessed personally against the Swans a couple of years ago in both games.
He was unstoppable and I was looking forward to see how he goes the next season. What happens. That prick Grover lines him up and smashes his shoulder.
The injury he copped that day would have been the same had it been any other player. Rusling was just unlucky. Even the surgeons stated that.
I was at that game also and could not believe what happened.
Let's hope he has no more injuries and kicks 50+ goals in a season so we have an end to all these debates. :)

I think the bonus of having Rusling in the best 22 is that he just adds another dimension to the team. To many times of late when Cloke and/or JA fail to fire we become very 1 dimensional and predictable IMO.

When fit Rusling is an awesome lead up fwd and no doubt if he's body holds together he will only improve with game time.

We rely on multiple goal kickers every game getting us over the line but with the FWD line that we look like we can string together 2010, i'm hoping and predicting that we are going to see the multiple goal kickers still finding the footy but also having a JA, Rusling, Cloke, Didak, Davis and even Jolly and Fraser possibly kick bags of 4+ goals week in and week out.

Optimistic maybe, but the inclusion of guys like Jolly/Rusling and Ball will allow players previously mentioned above to play closer to goal and be more damaging.

The options in 2010 barring injury are endless.

I like him. Other than injuries, my big concern is that his party trick is becoming less and less relevant in the evolving game.

if by one trick you mean, hard leading marking forward then ill have to say your quite wrong that its less relevant in our game..

this bloke by the name of fevola does it...and he kicks a boatload of goals every year

Rus has a spot in our side, but only if he can show something in the VFL up forward first

Fevola has many dimensions to his game, and it's why he is as good as he is. He can out body any defender, he is great at ground level for his size, and he can kick goals from any situation.

He is far more complete than people seem to give him credit for.

I love Jack, but he's not reliable enough on the lead at the moment. If he improves his timing, he might be, but I get the feeling that it's something natural - Not something that can be worked on.[/QUOTE]

Agree - it's speed, plain and simple.

Something Rus has more of than any player I've ever seen.

Tarrant was better burning players off on the lead than Rusling has shown in his 19 games... Tarrant in 03 was amazing.

Rusling / Cloke / Anthony can work in the same forward line together. Anthony has a more all round game (good field kicking, good defensive pressure, reasonable on the deck, and good in a scrap). Cloke to do the bulk of the up-the-ground work, with support from the rotating Anthony / Rusling, with the other one to stay deep.

Fraser / Jolly can be long for the bomb, and MEdders can do as he pleases.

Anyway, I think this debate is likely to just go round in circles since none of us have any idea how he's pulled up after his umpteen injuries. I hope we get the chance to find out soon enough.

This be da truth....bring on da footy.

OOOh! look a treasure chest.............

Anthony's best game/s have been better than Rusling's. Far more complete player as it stands.
Are you kidding? FTR ignoring the crap from my main board threads, I rate Anthony, but Rusling is on a whole different level of class. This kid can play, and I hope he finally has an injury free season, because when he plays, all opposition teams will have to be extra cautious of your fowardline. Goodluck to him, how is his pre season going?
