I was lucky enough to attend the season launch last night. It was a great night, much better than the last 2 I've been to. It was a much better atmosphere at the MCG, which we sold out and the room was abuzz with optimism. I thought I'd share some observations from the night.
-I sat on a table with Jayden Hunt and Nicho. It was fantastic to see Robbo bring Hassa Mann across to meet young Jayden, who is wearing Hassa's #29 and then hear Hassa give him some history on the number.
-Roos, PJ and Bartlett were all impressive when they spoke. The room was silent when Roos was at the microphone. No doubt these will be on the website soon. Paul’s message to the young players was that they are not the saviours of the club. They are here to learn and develop. He thanked the older players who are new to the club for taking a chance on a 2 and 20 team, as he kept calling us.
-There were lots of funny video clips and interviews throughout the night, Bernie's story about a cat that used to piss on his back doormat was a highlight.
-Mitch Clark was absent. I asked a player where he was. He was a bit cagey but said he's had a terrible run with injuries and that he actually did a calf last week. He was having time away from the club to clear his head. This news dampened my night.
-The players were great. Even the boys that were playing at Casey today hung around till about 10pm.
-The players I asked about Chip Frawley were all confident he would stay. (I suppose what else are they going to say.) They said he more than any player loves the club and his mates. Fingers crossed on that one.
