The annual update is currently underway at the Blueseum and we've started to update our 'Seasons per Premiership' page which simply tracks the years in the competition of all Clubs versus the Premierships won by those teams:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=Seasons per Premiership

Its an interesting analysis (though simple) which highlights the success of Carlton, Essendon and West Coast in their respective eras, but also that 5 of this years top 8 are on the 'bottom half' of the Seasons per Premiership ladder eg. Bulldogs and Saints with 1 premiership; Roos and Swans with 4, Geelong 7. A win by Collingwood would see them average a premiership every 7 1/2 years which as we know would be a striking rate of success (but still outside of Carltons!)

For those who don't know....who are the only 2 Clubs to have been in the competition every year?

From the Blueseum

West Coast, in their 21 year history, have been in the finals a fraction over every 4th. year on average. They have been champions every 7th. year on average!!!

As per the link, West Coast has won 7 premierships in 22 years in the competition at an average of one premiership every 7 1/3 years. This is one of the best in the league, only a little bit behind Carlton and Essendon (and behind Brisbane Lions if you accept them as a different team).

The Blueseum doesn't track finals performances of other clubs.

We've updated the table for finals results to this point in time, with only 2 teams left:

Will the Hawks crack their 10th premiership and move to an average of just over one every 8 years - a phenomenal record?

Or will the Cats earn their 8th premiership (half of ours in the same rough time in the competition)?

From the Blueseum

Correct.

Something else that's been pointed out to us - Geelong are of course Minor Premier and could do the double, much like us in 1995.

What was the last time Carlton won a Premiership without being Minor Premier?

That would have to be 1982 - finished 3rd but took it out for back 2 back flags.

One of my favourite trivia questions that stumps many is what team and when won both the wooden spoon and the premiership in the same season?

Correct, 1982.

And my answer to you is:

Fitzroy, 1916. Astonishing story (read the link).

Should have been our second threepeat!

great article !!
only 4 teams with war taking its toll on available players
most amazing thing was that even with only 4 teams in the league
Richmond still finished 9th :D :D

Updated for all of 2008.

The Hawks leapfrog above both Adelaide and Melbourne on an average years per premiership basis, with one every 8.4 years now better than Adelaide's 2 in 18 (9.0 year average) and Melbourne's 9.1 year average.

No denying it, the Hawks are a successful Club. Their 10th now matches Richmond, but in a shorter time period in the competition.
