Reckon you could pick GAJ with 4 others from a pool of 12, and you couldn't go wrong.

Need the right mix of inside/outside and strength/speed.

I didn't see enough of Doull, Bartlett (closest), Flower and a couple of others to justify putting them in, whereas I've seen a good amount of Matthews/Daicos. I fess up to my team having more of an AFL era (+late late VFL era) bias overall.

If you throw Franklin into a forward pocket as a positional switch, then Hird/ Enright / Scarlett goes HBF every day of the week . The body of work is just so much bigger and longer than N Daicos

I'm not arguing, and I wouldn't do it for any other player that has been 3 years into his career in all the time I've been watching the game.

But Daicos is a generational player, and I reckon we'll look back on this thread in 10 years time and you guys will be embarrassed that you even asked the question, given what we'd already seen and what he was expected to deliver over his career.

Stat-wise, Daicos and Sheezel are almost identical.

Regardless of accolades, back flankers need to have had minimum 5+ (10 is better) years in defence. Daicos has had 1.5ish seasons there. He'd need to actually play at half back another few years to even qualify.

And yes, that means it's silly to put anyone down until they've had 5 ridiculously high quality (AA level) seasons. In any position.

If Daicos wins big awards the next 3-4 seasons, his name could come up (but for midfield or bench, not defence).

100% agree with everything you said here.
If I was picking the best HBF of the past 50 years, the first three names that come to mind are Doull, Hodge and Enright.
Daicos isn't event close to any of these (based on career output to date).

I was just curious to see if he could somehow formulate a rational argument as to why Daicos deserves the spot and Sheezel doesn't.

I'd have Daicos starting on the HBF, rotating through the midfield, given the best teams have 6 to 7 players regularly rotating through the middle.

Nonetheless, the only player of that group I'm not confident of Daicos surpassing is GAJ.

As of today, nick isn't even in the discussion of the best 100 players of the past 50 years, let alone best 18

Tell me you haven't watched any North Melbourne games in the past 2 years without telling me you haven't watched any North Melbourne games in the past 2 years.

Sheezel is every bit the player that Nick Daicos is. Except Sheezel has actually taken multiple contested marks in his career.

I'm not saying he's better, but they are extremely similar players in their output.
The only main difference is that Daicos walked into a mature, finals ready team, and Sheezel walked into a rabble.
