Selection: round 13 - Final Team

Dave, he's just added up the numbers from the best lists, given each week. You could do the same with a bit of time.

i agree, only essential players are deserving of a straight walk up. for example everyone questioning why goldsack has been out, i ask them since when does a 2nd year player come in by name only? he has been struggling a little for form.

To be fair, I think Goldsack has shown a bit more. He's managed to negate players a lot more successfully than Toovey and I think his football brain is better. He managed to cement his spot last season in his debut year, he deserves more leniency than Toovey imo. Goldsack hasn't been the same since his facial injury, I'm hoping he isn't playing with any fear now, because if he is, he has no hope of succeeding. I have confidence in him though.

My main problem is that Toovey has next to no upside on him. A John Anthony or Chris Dawes have greater upside to them, and I believe that if we play young players, try the ones with bigger upside rather than players like Toovey and Cook.

Bigger risk = Bigger potential return.

there is a chance you are right of course, but its a bit unfair to make this call at this stage of toove's career. theres a list of players who really struggled to show any potential at all when young and with hard work developed to be extremely serviceable players for their clubs

if toovey finds a spot in the side, as a run with shutdown player for example as someone mentioned, he could yet prove his value.

will be interesting to see how he goes this sunday,

the 'bests' list is supposedly innacurate every week though, right?
There's often a player or two who are overlooked, but it's usually safe to say that if a player is named in the best list, they had at least a decent game.

The problem with Toovey vs. Goldsack is that Goldsack has had some ripping games, including a 26-or-so possession BOG performance against the Sydney Swans. Toovey's best games can be described as "serviceable".

Having seen the game today (most of it anyway) Jack looks like an AFL player. It must be frustrating with players like Toovey getting selected before him but he should just be patient, because I think he will make it.

I thought Anthony , Cook , Dyas , Barham and Macaffer were the good listed players for us today.
Dawes has got better in the past 2 weeks , but seems to have to do one stupid or poor thing for every good thing he does.
Iles' decision making and disposal today was poor.
Mc Carthy was OK , but also has decison makiing issues in most games I've seen.
Caey-Leigh was OK , needs to attack the ball better as a big man ,even if he does want to play like a 6 foot 5 winger.
Cox was less domiant than usual before being knocked out , he started forward.
Egan was typically poor , and I've never seen someone so obsessed with robbing themselves of any forward momentum when they've got the ball.
Presti looked like how I remembered him , just a tad rustier. He actually looked to have quick hands out of the backline.

Why Do You Care?

Because it's annoying.

As for Toovey, if I had to select a team this week, I wouldn't have selected him. That's just my opinion. He's not in the best 22 as selected by me. However i've got a fair idea MM and the selection panel have greater insight into our playing group than I do. I see them for a few hours out of every week. MM sees them daily.

Do you think it's even slightly, remotely possible that they may know more about a player then we do? Or are we the most-informed experts on each player?

Toovey has been selected for reasons we can't fathom, but I'll make a safe bet that he has been picked to carry out an important task. If he performs that task well, we may even win. I wish him well.

And for what it's worth, If he gets selected for each remaining game this year, and doesn't get one single kick, I'll still buy a membership next year.

Id be so F*&$ embarrassed if i was an afl player and my dad posted his disgruntlement at me not being selected publicly and quoted stats to back him up, hows your son feel about this,i really hope he disapproves cos i would be pretty embarrassed for myself and your probably not doing his career any good by voicing your opinion....

Id be so F*&$ embarrassed if:

a) I was ignorant enough to post such a rude comment about a respected and welcome contributor to a board I didn't belong to.
and

b) If I was a Geelong supporter............ - and don't bother with the "We won the premiership last year" crap. You only won because you were lucky enough to not play us.

Geelong 13.14 (92)
Collingwood 13.9 (87)

I thought Toovey did a good job on Sunday. He played with confidence, got a lot of tough balls, made smart displosal decisions, and no errors whatsoever. If other players had passed to him in the forward half during the final quarter when he was in a great position to do something useful, the outcome of the game could have been different. And no, I don't want to hear that the other players don't have confidence in him and therefore, don't pass the ball to him. He got enough of the play during the game to indicate that this isn't the case; the more experienced players who should know better, just made bad decisions on those occasions.

I am personally tired of you guys using lazy, emotive language (e.g., disgust, horrible, disgraceful) to argue your case. You clearly don't like him and regardless of how he performs, will continue to denegrate him.
