I'm more excited that Goldsack is back in :):thumbsu:

I think the majority of people are annoyed because he has showed nothing in the VFL side compared to players who are week in week out great performers in the seconds, which is beyond me as to why they don't get games  The kids in the seconds have been giving their all to try and get a spot in the 1st's only to be beaten by some1 who hasn't played recently and is in poor form.. i feel for Toovey's confidence after this thread but what about the confidence level of the best players in the seconds who no matter how well they perform, can't seem to get a game.!?

if he had played in the seconds all this time and proven well, this thread would not exist..

If he cant perform in the seconds surely you'd think he would struggle against the elites of the game..

I'm no coach or anything but it seems pretty simple to me..

I think that Jack has as much potential as the next bloke, but what exactly has he done or shown to warrant selection over Toovey?? And PLEASE don't post something about how Toovey has sub-par skills. It is a legitimate question...

If people bother to actually look at the game stats from time to time, it might give them a better idea how a player has been performing. In answer to your statement about what has Jack done to deserve a spot over Toovey, the VFL stats for the year speak volumes.

2008 so far: Toovey has played 4 VFL games and was named BOG 1 st round but not named in the best since. Has only played 2 AFL games this year. .
Jack has played 8 games, named in the best 4 times, played 1 AFL game.
There are a number of other players statistically who are also ahead of Toovey in terms of their VFL performances this year. Those players rated by total number of points in the best on game days are as follows:
1. Shannon COX.
2. John ANTHONY
3. Sharrod WELLINGHAM
4. Brent McAFFER
5. Danny STANLEY
6 Ryan COOK
7. Sam ILES
You can do the maths anyway you like and hypothesize till the cows come home, but I cannot understand why some players get selected over others who clearly are not performing better than those who have the score on the board.

see, thats my point

the selection panel has a much better insight and expertise over who should be playing then anyone on this board. you're all screaming about him being mm's love child and whatnot, but is that fact? maybe but no-one knows for sure

if toovey plays a good game, does that not show that his selection was warranted and MM knew what he was doing??

of course not , you lot will probably find something else to complain about.
When Lokan, Kinnear, Wild and co were selected, were they good selections? Were they beneficial? No.

Some people had the balls to actually say 'I don't agree with these selections'. Other, like yourself, refuse to have opinions and just follow what the 'experts' say.

There is NOTHING wrong with disagreeing with the selection panel.

On Thursday I didn't think Toovey should come in. Just because he DID does NOT mean I should suddenly change my opinion.

mate i disagree with the selections week in week out

i dont agree with this weeks selections for example, and i disagree with maxwell being in our current side. i also think lonie should never get another game, so don't say that i blindly follow without opinion

im not a fan of toovey either, but i simply objected to the disgusting calls being made by some "supporters" here. saying you will boycott the game because a kid has been chosen to pull on a black and white jumper is utterly unnacceptable, i dont care who you are.

instead of being congratulatory and wishing him well, we decide to knock the poor kid down and hope for the worst. :thumbsd::thumbsd:

You're dead right there JA. Lotta love for some players, very little for others at the selection table.

Notonce have I said I will boycott a game or my membership. In fact, I critisized a guy who said they wont turn up to a game.

I hope Toovey plays well. But the fact is, only essential players like Pendlebury should be able to walk back into the side after an injury without showing VFL form first. Guys like him have earned to right.

I am genuinely appalled that Malthouse is giving Toovey, who has been average at best at AFL level and not even in the top 5 at VFL level.

Something is up there, it just doesn't make sense. I think Malthouse should justify the decision if members ask, since we are a paying part of the club.

So like I said, it's a shocking, stupid decision, but I DO hope Toovey plays well.

then my comment wasnt directed to you, but to the ones that did react that way or similar

i agree, only essential players are deserving of a straight walk up. for example everyone questioning why goldsack has been out, i ask them since when does a 2nd year player come in by name only? he has been struggling a little for form.

other than that, i am not appalled, per se. i am surprised and would have liked to see someone else get the call up. but it happens and lets see how he goes.

to tell you the truth, i like toovey even more now after all the arguing we've been doing, hehe

Id be so F*&$ embarrassed if i was an afl player and my dad posted his disgruntlement at me not being selected publicly and quoted stats to back him up, hows your son feel about this,i really hope he disapproves cos i would be pretty embarrassed for myself and your probably not doing his career any good by voicing your opinion....

from all accounts, john (the son) is a very humble man. one pie fan was retelling how he was chatting with JA and told him it must be frustrating watching everybody else get a call up when you clearly deserve it more, and JA told the fan off for speaking about his teammates that way

i never met the bloke but theres many reports of him being a very humble and well mannered kid

I'd love to have a Dad who could stand up for me like that. Everyone's entitled to their opinion after all, and it's not as though his critique isn't constructive.

Just for the record, JAJH is very quiet in regard to his son and rarely pushes him forward for any special treatment on these boards.
His post was more to clear up other peoples mis-informed numbers.
I for one value his occasional insight into how his son is going and I find him to extremely balanced and fair in his point of view.
