I think it comes down to the years of compromised drafts. This years football was so sub-par compared to past seasons'. There are so few clubs who actually play decent enough football to warrant winning a premiership cup, the rest are just a rabble. Where Geelong finished is evidence of that, because they had absolutely zero chance of ever winning the flag IMO, yet only two teams are supposedly better than them.

Whoever wins tomorrow night, will be the side I want to win the flag. I would like Freo a lot more if Ross wasn't their coach but still I like them a lot more than North, Hawthorn and Sydney.

Where Geelong finished is evidence of that, because they had absolutely zero chance of ever winning the flag IMO, yet only two teams are supposedly better than them.

Geelong were flattered by a bit of luck in tight games. Winning all of their close games when you usually take 50/50 put them higher than they deserved. Their poor percentage showed that.
The premiership was really up for grabs this year. Such a shame we went backwards instead of improving, cost midway we were as good a chance as anyone and had taken out Sydney and North. Just goes to show how an amateur training regime can cost a premiership.

That is how they won 7 close games.
We got shafted & "Carlton lost both times because of dodgy frees" (lol)
I said they were the Bradburies this year and only made up numbers in top 4. Luck & Umpires !!!
I think they will slide next year.

They looked one paced, skill levels down, loose defence early.
Getting a bit old & tired (some of them).
Relied on Hawkins to keep them in the game.
They need younger players to stand up.
