There are serious problems with democracy in Australia when former judges are breaking the law for political gain.
Every single pillar of democracy - Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, Media - are all severely compromised now. What is happening in the USA and Israel with regard to the Judiciary is outright scary.

'London to a brick' the RWNJs are going to argue that Commissioner Holmes' Robodebt report is other side equivalent simply because of how badly it makes an ex-PM look.
Sofronoff's conduct here has the potential to completely undermine confidence in the judiciary, which puts us another step closer to Americans.

You need to take your blinkers off. What political gain are you alleging any former judge may receive ?
Unrelated as it is to Senator Reynolds .
Sofronoff is pushing a political agenda around innocent until proven guilty. That was the subject of his cancelled speech. Which is fine.
But if you want to be an activist on that issue then excuse yourself from undertaking a formal enquiry on that issue.

I think people are forgetting that Lerhman has multiple accusations of sexual assault that came out in court.
Linda Reynolds is way out of line and this channel 7 bs is a disgrace.

You are obviously choosing to ignore the Matters prosecution involving the same DPP & defence lawyer in the same time frame.
'Mr Whybrow told The Australian: “For good or bad, our criminal justice system is an adversarial one and if an accused person is not permitted (within appropriate bounds) to challenge the accuracy or veracity of a witness, even if the collateral effect may be humiliating or embarrassing, it’s hard to see how there can be a fair trial.”
By all means Ari, remain wilfully ignorant of why 'multiple accusations of sexual assault against him so why would you believe him' is rejected by the Rule of Law 'innocent until proven guilty.
As for Ms Reynolds she is within her legal rights to have her story told. The story that the A/G effectively guillotined in the Higgins payout. She will have her day in Court at her own expense.

When we actually find out wtf Bruce Lehrmann is and how he became a senior advisor at Defence despite being singularly unqualified and inexperienced we'll be a lot closer to finding out why the conservative press and members of the previous government have gone to the mattresses to run a protection racket for him.

The leaking of the report by Walter Sofronoff is a criminal offence under section 17 of the ACT Inquiries Act 1991 “Nondisclosure of information by members etc” “A person who is or has been a member, a member of the staff of aboard or a lawyer assisting a board must not,” “produce to any person, or permit any person to have access to, adocument provided for this Act.” which is punishable by up to 6 months jail.
As a former Queensland Supreme Court judge and Solicitor-General of Queensland Walter Sofronoff would know that so he has no defence to his crime.

Not just The Australian newspaper but Janet Albrechtsen's little corner of it ffs - the Chair of the right-wing Institute of Public Affairs, who is an advocate/cheer leader for right wing culture 'anti woke' identity politics rather than a journalist.
The fact nearly all of her stuff is posted behind a subscriber-only paywall is a godsend for most of us with a functioning brain. But sadly we get slabs of the stuff cut and pasted in every second thread as stand alone commentary which is not just embarrassing but mind numbingly idiotic.
