Pre-season or not, it's been good (or as some people would say, by his standards).

It started from Hall last year - then Lloyd, Thompson and Brown. He's either broke even or beaten these players. And these players are pretty decent too.

Very happy for the lad. May he continue. :thumbsu:

well, he'll probably get Richo first up, so he can add another name to his belt :)

I wouldn't agree that he beat Brown tonight, but he was good. And playing on someone the calibre of Brown will give him valuable learning experience. Probably a good move by Pagan to put him on Brown. Carlos will keep improving and I reckon he'll beat Richo if he gets him in the first round.

Setanta was fantastic tonight. Got beaten on a few occasions, but then again he was up against the best CHF in the AFL by an absolute mile. He got caught out by Browns excellent body work. Some of his spoils were brilliant. Was also nice to see Thornton and Waite help out as well. He'll learn a lot from tonight's matchup. :)

Was excellent tonight once again. I reckon he beat Brown on the night.

Has played on and beaten some of the best forwards in the game.

And boy am I proud of him and happy for him-he deserves it for all his hard work.

Beat him convincingly for 3 quarters. Brown had to run far up the ground just to get a kick, rendering him ineffective. Setanta let this happen to a degree knowing that Brown out of the forward 50 was the best result.

However the last quarter really changed the tide a bit. Kicked a couple of goals and gave some good supply to C.Johnson. But by then it was almost as good as over.

Setanta takes the points overall i'd say. Against a match-fit brown, might not have been the same story.

After a full year at full back, he'll be ready for any full forward in the game.

IMO, he broke even. Spoiled most of Brown's marks, kept at him and as a result was ineffective for 3 quarters. He didn't kick his first goal until the final quarter, and it was only then until he started getting in and doing noticable damage.

Considering everyone was expecting him dominate and kick 8, I'd say based on that, Sentanta got the points or at least broke even. :thumbsu:

Brown is the best forward in the competition.

So while Brown isn't fully fit Setanta did a good job holding him for a great deal of the game.

It's impossible to hold a champiion for a full 4 quaters.

The thing i like about Carlos is he's a punch first kind of defender.

Too many defenders today have lost the skill of defending using the fist..

For the first time in god knows how long we have a legitimate FUB rather than an undersized spareparts battler.

Brown is the best forward in the competition.

Fevola, Pavlich, Riewoldt, Hall are all better than him. His output has been considerably less then all of them. Not even a single individual accolade. All the power forwards have at least dominated a season or two (or more) and have accolades to their name (like AA years), Brown's yet to do this. Dominating a few games here and there, against poor opposition, without being consistent doesn't make him the best, especially if there are better out there than him whose output is greater.

So is Lloyd and Tredrea not counting their recent absence. They at least have the runs on the board.

Add Chris Grant to that list of scalps for 06.:thumbsu:

It staggers me how far this guy has come in the last 12 months.

He will be the AA FB in the next few years, with Waite at CHB, Walker at HBF.:thumbsu:

Fair enough. I got a bit worried towards the end there that Brown was going to win it for them.
I reckon Carlos is doing a great job. At this stage of his career he is probably as good as Jim Steins was. Let's hope he can emulate Jim. :)

A fully fit Brown is the most dominant forward in the game IMO.

Perhaps i should say CHF then as FUF to CHF are different in their roles.

But if i was picking a team out of todays players and they were all fully fit Brown would be my first pick.

Fev is an outsantding FUf but Brown also give you a brillaint footballer with physical menace, alot like Hall.

he was pumped tonight, after a contest he would pump his fist "come on" ..great to see the 200% effort and focus ... he lacks so much knowledge of the game but his pure determination and hard work is really paying off ..

Love your work Setanta ... so many exciting players to look forward in watching this year'

Lets show the AFL world we are on the way back!!!

I must have watched a different game because Brown beat him quite convincingly. However, good experience for him but just needs to hit the gym to be better for body on body battles. No-one questions his athleticism and ability to spoil.

A few different views on how Setanta went on Brown.I am just glad that we finally have someone who can make a game of it instead of us arguing who would be the least shiite at Fullback

It's all part of the big blokes development:)
Brown did still get a fair bit of it, but Carlos stuck to it well and some of his spoils are as good as a kick:thumbsu:

It is inevitable that he will get hammered every now and then, but he is just improving game by game. That is great to see.

I actually really like the care he is taking with his kicking as well. He hasn't racked up the stats, but he has been hitting his targets:thumbsu:

Um.. Brown was their only KP forward, and a triple premiership KP forward, and Setanta kept him to 2 goals. If Setanta got "beaten", I'd be content if he gets "beaten" like this every game this year. Sensational effort by Setanta. :)

Great work from Setanta. His skills need work, but he shuts down the opposition's best. Interesting to see how he goes on Richo next week, who was to big and athletic for Thornton.
Great series by the big man. All the opposition supporters have given him no respect on their respective forums - in particular the Roos supporters last week, but his record over this month will shut a lot of them up. 2, 0, 1, 2 is a pretty good return against some of the best forwards going.

However, he was a little too self-conscious when he got the ball and ran. He needed to kick the ball and not try to hand it off like he's gotten into the habit of doing down back.

Come on Setanta, your kicking's OK and it's always the best option in traffic.

Nice to know Carlton has a mind-reader on the BF board! From Setanta's reactions on the occasions when Brown beat him outside the forward 50 area, I think you are deluding yourself.

Brown looked better as the game progressed which is understandable. His last quarter showed what he would do to Setanta the next time they match up. That's not a criticism of Setanta....just recognition that Brown is a gun, despite what some morons state on this board.

I think there's huge upside with Setanta and I like what I see. I also love the way he carries on when a free kick is paid against him or anyone in his vicinity. Damn crazy irishman:D

You must have.

The majority of contests Setanta won, i lost count of his thumping spoils. Brown got better as the game went on and beat him in the last qtr but not when the game was there to be won. Setanta won on the night.

He's going great and so much improvement left in him too.

Bentnick has also been good while Griggs has shown glimpses in the reserves

Not forgetting Thornton, who will dominate of the third tall. Big chance for AA this year, IMO.
