Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

Carlos is best 22.

So so so good seeing a big forward take contested marks and kick goals for us.

Mindblowing that it's taken this long for him to return to the seniors.

Also, nice 2 goal assists to Lucas in that vid ;)

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

He looks ungainly, but o'hailpin should b one of our key forward options for the next 5 years. Extremely underrated!!

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

You will not get anything less from the big Irish man.. Love his passion...if you go to battle, gotta have him in the side.

I'm feeling too well (literally) about Matthew Kreuzer...predicting a really crap day a work.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

He looked fantastic. its been a long time seeing someone dominate contested marks like that in our forward line. He looked confident and fit and also he was wearing the same glove that cloke wears hahah. Maybe it does help take a grab

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

Performed very well and has been missed. Glad to see him back at last, proving what a lot of us have been saying...that he should have been back sooner.

Seems to have real footy smarts now about positioning to take a mark. And very reliable set shot. (No more playing on left foot snaps though please)

Always loved settopbox.... have always made fun of him and his decision makin but the best thing about him is he puts in 110%....

Sometimes that is exactly what you.need as apose to silky skills...

Definitely has to stop playin on tho... Cannot remember him kicking a goal from playing on... i still remember against the hawks last year when he marked and played on in the goal sq and the ball was knocked from... Crucial... i think as a team we have to stop doin it also... Besides murph...

And to think if he just went back and slotted it he would have kicked 5 straight...

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

Looked at the Setant on the weekend and the first thing I thought was 'Gee, he looks a good size these days'. Looks to be in good shape the big man.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

Agreed!

Sentanta played really well I think!

He had a presence in the forward line and often drew extra defenders to him.
He seemed to read the ball quite well most of the time and took some good contested marks.

His pinch-ruck work was actually very good I thought. (He seems to have improved in this area)

Go Sentata!
Should have been brought in 3/4 weeks ago!

Yes, and this is invaluable these days. From time to time I'd love to see Warnock resting in the square, Setanta in the ruck with Kruze on the ball, inside at stoppages.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

Needs 2 things

1. A smack in the head for playing on. You would have thought he'd have learnt his lesson last time.
2. To stay in the forwardline all game (this should be fine considering Kreuzer is ok)

Been saying this for weeks - Just a shame about his injury.

Much in the vein of Robinson, he splits defenders in half and makes up for any deficiencies by setting the tone for those around him.

You can have as many Houlihans and Gibbs as you like, but the gut-busting types like him are twice as valuable IMO.

Apparently Gartlett is a slow learner too. :o

It was great to see Setanta pluck a couple......but almost as good was watching Lucas drop the ball to advantage twice in traffic.......mouth watering.......sign the boys up now Swannie.

I've posted in other threads that Jeffy also needs a smack.

Lucas was sublime in the first quarter.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

I think it's safe to say that confidence plays a big hand on what type of performance we'll get from him. Loved what i saw from him on Friday, but i'm still skeptical. I'd feel more confident on playing him in the finals if he had atleast 3-4 games under his belt and showed for more than one game that he can consistently have an impact. He's been around forever it seems, but he's still an enigma in a sense. I really don't know what to expect from him week in week out. Setanta at his best (like on Friday) is a really valuable player to the team and someone that is definitely in our best 22. His worst however, is disgustingly bad at times.

I'm not sure if i'm comfortable with him playing in a do or die game, just because he's missed so much time.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

last played in round 11, but he has been playing for the ants for a number of weeks. unlike jamison or waite. Im not saying hes on their level, although his fitness was always good. He deserves a shot ahead of a vastly underdone waite and if he doesnt get it he should leave.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

At this crucial stage a healthy O'Hailpin is much more valuable to the CFC than a crippled Waite.

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

SETANTA should be in the side for lots of reasons, especially for his attack on the ball, and even if he drops form at least as the sub, because without him we have a forward line made up of short people.......thanks to Wayne Hughes not recruiting any kpp in the 2007-2008-2009 drafts, and our young kpp guys from last year won`t be ready for a fair while yet. we should have shipped FEV off to W.COAST instead of KENNEDY when we did the JUDD deal........it will be very interesting to see if CARLTON gives the draft guys specific instructions as to what we need again this year instead of letting Hughes pick his " FLANKERS " again...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a little unfair this time. The angle he was on meant that the shot wouldn't be a "sitter" (about 45 degrees or so) and the spot he ran too meant that he opened the goal face completely. By the time he kicked it he was dead in front.

It was a smart play that was poorly executed in the end, Jeff's play on from the edge of the square on the other hand ...

Agree with this. Setanta did everything right except kick the ball well. Garlett made life harder for himself.

On the contrary I think his history shows that he hits the ground running with a decent amount of lower level prep work and tails off after 5-6 games.

Just maybe his injury came at the right time and we reap the benefit of having him on the up side of the bell shaped curve when we need his type of effort most.

Great post. Should have included the graph though.:D

Re: Setanta O'Hailpan

He is a very straight set shot kicker
Should never play on if he marks it anywhere inside 50m.
