Carlos has 19 marks inside 50 of which half were contested. I suspect that contested marks inside 50 are not a measure we want to be high in though, contested marks are low percentage options. We are running the ball in and spotting up options or are specifically set up for the ball to spill to ground with nippy running forwards. Carlos is working well and his marking is nothing to be concerned about. Forward line working a treat at the moment. If we have any issues at all it will be getting some confidence into Hendo, but even as I type this I am mindful that he will take a while and we need to be patient, the gun that fires from 1st season is the exception not the rule, we had this conversation last year with Yazz and Rich and I am very happy we have Yazz. Hendo will take a little longer.

I have these random bursts of laughter during the day just thinking about some of Setantas' work. Really deserves just as much credit (if not more) as the smaller guys for the way our forward line is working this year.

Just strap ourselves in for the ride.

Apologise if this has been covered somewhere else. Am rapt as most are that Setanta has proven so consistent thus far in the season. He is perhaps my favourite player and may become a much better player than many would have believed. An area that he does seem to have slipped in a little is his pack marking. At various stages in his career and even in a pre season Optus Oval game he seemed to be much more confident in contested marking. I believe he has the ability to take strong pack marks but whilst the rest of his game has improved considerably his confidence in the pack mark seems to have slipped a little. Just wondering if this aspect could be missed because of his overall improvement? As I see it if he can regain his contested marking strength he will likely become a true power forward.

I'm not sure if we are watching the same player, but until the middle of last year......actually the mauling by Essendon, I don't recall Setanta taking many marks at all that weren't chest marks.

I am happy to be proven wrong, but I jumped from my seat at the G when he extended the dukes and pulled in an overhead contested mark......and as far as I'm concerned he seems to have gone from strength to strength. One mark he took against Port, in the first Q and goaled, he came from behind, outbodies his opponent and held a very strong overhead mark. Fev wouldn't have held it without giving the guy in front a Karate kick to the stomach.

His marking has improved out of sight.

I think his timing is a bit off at times. I don't see it as a mjor problem though. He leads fairly well.

SETANTA O'hAilpin was almost named Padraig O'hAilpin.
Padraig is Irish for Patrick and he was born the day after Saint Patrick's Day. His father, Sean, from Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, is an Irish nationalist. After considering Padraig, Sean O'hAilpin chose for his fourth child a name every bit as famous in Irish mythology. The legendary warrior of the Irish dreamtime is called Cuchulain but his birth-name, the name with which he begins his mythical life journey, is Setanta.

Carlton supporters call Setanta “Carlos”. Most people in this country haven't heard of Setanta, the Irish hero of antiquity, but they have heard of guitarist Carlos Santana. In the old Australia way, when someone looks a bit “foreign”, near enough's good enough so they call him Carlos. Carlton supporters would do well to acquaint themselves with the story of Setanta O'hAilpin's name because it's a big part of him and the way he plays the game.

The reality is, round these parts he goes by Irish and Setanta, for the most part.
